Cyrillic font support in Sonar 8.x Studio

Hi,
 
I am having difficulties using Cyrillic fonts for Lyrics or Text Events in Sonar 8.5.2.
 
I can create (type-in or paste) Cyrillic text in the Lyrics view. The text is visible in the Staff view and I can edit the text there. However, if I save and then re-open the project, Cyrillic text becomes scrambled.
 
Sonar tech support gave up on me and also stated that the issue was not addressed in Sonar X release (I asked them if there's a demo version of Sonar X available so I could try it for free. I don't feel comfortable paying $100 for an upgrade without making sure that it works).
 
I have a Win XP Pro PC and a Win 7 Pro PC, both of them use US default regional settings and Cyrillic is added as a system font.
 
I have a number of working(!) apps that rely on Cyrillic system font.
 
I have a feeling that the problem could be related to the way Sonar saves non-ASCII text.
 
Any thoughts, ideas or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.
