[:D] Note to Self

I know its early, the storms are surrounding us and its ugly outside.

I dont have enough COFFEE in me yet and having a hell of a time getting going.

So when sitting down to mix down 12 songs individually, "Make sure to select all the tracks before you sit for 15 minutes while it does its thing processing , ONLY to find out you missed the bass and acoustic guitars in the MIX"   Ughhhh

Back to the coffee pot for a large refill.

Ohhh   GOOD MORININ' ALL

Hey Mike, better to find that now!  I was not selecting all tracks but all subs and I would happily download and transfer to my iPhone for my commute and voila! - only guitars!  This is one of those "gotcha" things.
Have great day  and Good Mornin' to you too!

15 minutes?

Yeh Im new to the having to do the "What you Hear" thing because of the SoftSynths.

I see now it does all the processing first, then when it goes to mix down, it starts playing and finishes mix down at the end of the song.  Havent seen this before myself.  It takes it a bit but as long as its doing it correctly, I can live with the 15.  Nice having it play back though, I can go about my daily House **** duties and when the songs over, I know (or at least assume) its done

As far as why it takes so long this way, I have NO idea. May be the setting at which Im doing it.
(Usually  Wave, 44100/32, Triangular, Entire Mix, & "What You Hear" This is just the mix/not Master

I produced the Norwegian dub for a cartoon called "Chumballs", mixed the recording and sent it to the TV station on a Friday to be aired on the Saturday morning...

On Monday I got a text from one of the actors saying

"The episode on Saturday was pretty good. But for some reason, one of the main characters didn't have a voice, at all!! It was a bit weird"

I checked the bounced mix and one of the three kid characters was not to be heard. Checked the project and his track was muted...

And approx 120 000 kids had watched it..

(120 000 probably doesn't sound like much to some of you but we're only 4,5 million people in this country - it's pretty much everyone who would watch it)

Actually, IMO, no. When a track is muted in a folder the folder's mute button is half shaded orange. Easy to see (if I just look for it ).

Nope, no track folders, just my own useless self;)

The actors had a laugh - the TV station wasn't too happy tho. Thankfully my boss doesn't pay much attention!.

And I am embarrassed still!

Sorry, Marius.  I couldn't help myself on that.  I realize that it is a serious and embarrassing situation.  I'm glad to hear that most everyone isn't mad.  I hope that there are no bad repercussions and I'm confident that you will make up for it and won't do that again.  Will you be able to fix it so that the character's voice will be audible when they rerun the show?

Good luck,
Jan

@Rimshot & @Old55 - Thanks.

I blame it on the lack of coffee as well

Nah, not so sad really. Didn't mean it to come across as that. Embarrassing for sure but we all laugh of it over here now. And it was so stupid that we could only laugh of it at that time too. It happened about two years ago. The TV company didn't make too much fuzz out of it, other than saying that it shouldn't happen.

And I know for a fact that I'm not the only one who have done this

A colleague of mine at a different studio did the same with a dubbed movie that was screened at the cinnema and no one noticed until after the release of the DVD. Obviously some control routines needs to be revised but I'm glad it wasn't me who got stuck with the bill for all those DVDs
And there are more and worse stories as well.
People make mistakes and we are people in the entertainment industry. This could turn into a huge debate about finances, piracy, decafinated coffe etc - but it doesn't matter

Yet I'm sure if someone used the wrong EQ plugin or dithering algorithm everyone would have noticed right away.  [ducks]
