DAW HW suggestions recommendations?

Hi all.


I am planning to upgrade my DAW hardware (the PC) in the not so near future (let’s say for year end)
My questions to the forum are about with are the items that really make the difference?
  • [font="symbol;"][lang="en-us"]The video card (mine insert noises when playing SW synths)
  • [font="symbol;"][lang="en-us"] The amount of memory.
  • [font="symbol;"][lang="en-us"]The CPU spec
  • [font="symbol;"][lang="en-us"]The OS (I use win 7 pro)
  • The sound card model and type. (Internal or USB, etc.)
  • [font="symbol;"][lang="en-us"]The hard disk(s) speed and capacity.
I am not a pro, just a hobbyist, but really like to get good sound (more an audiophile type)
Any comments are welcome and appreciated. (I have SONAR X1b Professional), GPO4, JABB3, and other SW nice synths, also an old Roland MIDI KB)

    Will it be used only for a standalone daw or will you be using it for internet surfing also?
    I would recommend an extra external hard drive be added as well (Atleast one)
    What are using as an interface to plug your Midi into for recording?
    What will you be using as speakers (Monitors or headphones or ???)
    For some other ideas you can check out sites like Jim R's at Studiocat for somemore ideas and prices. A few here have them and for the price, you will get an awsome system ready to install X1 on compared to an outa the box with all the extra stuff that gets in your way.
