DAW Laptop

I occasionally need to do some field audio work. I have been dragging around a tower, monitor keybd, mouse, and Delta 1010 breakout box. I'd like to be able to use my laptop:

Lenovo ThinkPad R61
Intel Core Duo Processor T8100
2.1 GHz
800 MHz

15.4 Screen
nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140 M PCIe

2GB RAM
160 GB Hard Drive

My question is what type of external hardware should I get to go with it. I want the fastest, least latency devices that I can get. Does this mean a firewire PCMCIA card and some sort of breakout box? I'm clueless and need advice.

Thanks,

Al

I use a USB M-Audio Fast Track Pro device with a lap top at a remote location. It occasionally glitches if I have too many processes running. So I tend to prune processes down prior to a session. I have found it adeqaute.
