DAW for Android? Or at least a WAV player?
For the past couple years I've been taking my laptop to gigs and playing .cwp songs straight from SONAR, which I'm well aware is not ideal, but it works. I also know I need to change that habit, especially now that I'm making changes due to recent events. So... Does anyone know of a good, free, DAW environment for Android that I can use for both gig performances and quick editing work when/if needed? Failing that, do you know of any good, free, WAV players for Android, that supports playlists? It would be best if the playlist feature had the option to not auto-play one song after another. I Googled around and saw lots of possibilities, but in the interest of time, if anyone can shoot me in a good direction I'd appreciate it.

I'd recommend Audio Evolution Mobile (telecharge linked to it above). It's about $7. For another $7 or so, you can add their USB driver. I've run AEM on both my Google Nexus 10 tablet and Samsung S7 Edge. The PreSonus AudioBox 44VSL that I could never get working reliably under Windows works great as a class-compliant audio i/f (all you need is a USB Host OTG cable). http://www.extreamsd.com/...ology/usb-audio-driver

Some great suggestions here, thank you! And Maartian, that Stage Assistant app looks very handy! I'll try to remember to post back with my thoughts about it after I've tried it.

Looking forward to it. Just for fun, take a look at Gig Performer. It's the mutz nutz. I just love it. And it's great in the home studio, too. I can load any VST VI and play it without having to load a DAW. https://www.gigperformer.com/

Looked at Gig Performer's price first, and left, lol. No point getting all drooly over something I can't have. ...yet. As for Stage Assistant, got it installed but couldn't figure out how to import songs into the app. And no instructions/tutorials in sight. Uninstalled for now, will come back to it if nothing else suffices.

I didn't want to poo-poo it without having tried it, but it hasn't been updated since 2014 and the few old reviews don't inspire confidence. I find these things are worth noting for apps. I've heard nothing but good things about Audio Evolution, though, and I frequently see announcements of updates.

Poweramp on Android does all of that.

Thanks for reporting back. I only just noticed it. Never tried it myself. But AE Mobile is a solid product. For less than $15 (with the USB driver and your audio i/f), you have a very capable mobile DAW. AEM on my old Nexus 10 tablet connected to my former doorstop PreSonus AudioBox 44VSL was the solution I wound up using when I couldn't get an old XP laptop to run Reaper (not Reaper's fault; was the built-in video's (AMD) drivers). If Gig Performer has a newsletter, I'd sign up for it. When/if they have a sale, you'll know. GP replace two products for me: 1) the free SAVIHost .exe wrapper for VST 2.4 .DLLs, and 2) Cantabile free. Really happy with it.

Note that I haven't purchased any of the add-ons (see below). I just use AEM to capture audio which then goes straight into my desktop DAW. I don't mix on it. The following in-app purchases are available to expand your studio: • USB audio interface support (you can also purchase USB Audio Recorder PRO). Please see our compatibility list here https://www.extreamsd.com/USBAudioRecorderPRO and for more information here: http://www.audio-evolutio...php?id=usbaudiosupport• FX pack 1 (distortion, overdrive, speaker sim, wah wah, phaser) • FX pack 2 (10-, 15-, 30-band graphic EQ) • ToneBoosters pack 1 (Barricade, DeEsser, Gate, Reverb) • ToneBoosters EQ with frequency analyzer • ToneBoosters Compressor • ToneBoosters Ferox • Vocal Tune with two-voice harmonizer • Loop/sample packs • Soundfont packs

FYI, turns out Stage Assistant needs to be connected to a USB MIDI interface/controller; you can't simply load songs onto an SD card or into a tablet and play them from there. So that's out. :( I'll keep looking at other suggestions in this thread.

That's one of the first things I tried a couple years ago, but there was something about it that didn't suit my needs. Possibly the lack of non-autoplay of the next song or something. VLC isn't bad, but there's a very audible 'thump' in the sound when I tap play for each song. Not good coming through a PA system on stage.
