Looks way better to me.  I actually really like this delay. I'm excited to try automating the parameters on the granular delay.

The three new tutorials on Groove 3 certainly pointed out some interesting uses. The third one was all about the granular delay while the 2nd was more for the traditionalist singer / songwriter like me e.g. instantiating twice to get a stereo delay...

I'm quite happy to see there is a new GUI, I'll be finally downloading my copy next week so I am spared the update :)

This is a cool plugin. One thing I can't figure out is how to pan the effect. I watched the Groove3 vid where he sets up a stereo delay using two instances, but I didn't see how he panned them L/R. Anybody know?

Any downloads from now including the free downlod is at 1.01 so you don't have to update.

I think the GUI is horrible actually and it amazes me how bad some people are at designing GUI's.  They have no idea.  Simple as that.  Having said that though it is a great plugin for sure.

Eddie I agree with you.  There is a WIDE switch but not sure what it is doing.  From what I can see there is no panning on the top and the bottom delay which is a major oversight for me.  I don't think you can store settings also which is a bit dumb as well.

The only option you may have is to set up two of these and pan them accordingly.  It just means more compliacted setting for two of them instead of one.  But you could also set the threshold full up one one so only the bottom delay is working and fully down on the other so the top delay is working on that.

The free Groove 3 tutorial on this is well worth watching too.

That is a great question, they are both on the same bus so it can't via the sends...

Set up two Buses with an instance of the delay on each. From one channel create two sends and send the same signal into the two buses at once. Pan the delays at the buses. Good thing about this is you still have the dual delay effect working from within one instance but set up different settings for left and right.

Yes thanks Jeff, that'll work, but it does seem like there must be some hidden feature that allows panning, given what was set up in the Groove3 video.  I won't rest until I know the secret!!

I am not sure on that Eddie.  The thing is in those videos you never see the host DAW and how he had it setup so we may never know.  I can contact Bill over on the Presonus forums and ask if you like and report back.
I am sure Bill would have mentioned panning and if it was possible.  He is very thorough and tends to explain every single feature on something like this.  Maybe the WIDE sort of does it a bit perhaps.  I will check with Bill himself and get back to you here.

Re: DDLY 1.01 out 2016/02/28 15:42:28 (permalink)
Hi Eddie and others interested in this delays panning options.  I have heard back from Bill Edstrom who did that free Groove 3video.  Basically you cannot pan the upper and lower parts of that delay separately which is a little disappointing for sure.  He said he was not sure what the WIDE button actually does except that it may alter the delay times slightly and pan slightly but he is still not sure.

Bill agreed with me that the only way to get super wide panning is to setup two instances of these delays and feed a single source into both of them and pan each hard L and R.  You would set the threshold full up in one so only the bottom delay works and all the way down in the other so the only the top delay works. (or set in the middle and use both delays on each side which would be rather cool too)

He used Studio One V3 to do the video.  We have what we call Channel effects and basically we can set up any number of plugins up in a single channel or a single buss in run them in any combination of series or parallel routings.  We use a splitter to feed two parallel effects and then panning plugins to pan them and then combine the result all to one output. That whole setup can be saved as an effects chain and loaded up later instantly.  This is all rather versatile stuff for sure.  You guys would need dual buses to do the same thing but easily done.

Jeff, thanks for the explanation.  I suspected it was some feature in S1 that Bill was using to enable the L/R panning on a single bus.  Anyway, great freebie plugin for sure.  Works nicely in front of reverbs, as shown in the vids.  And a lot of fun can be had playing with the Grain mode.  Thanks, iZotope!

Cheers,
Eddie

If you have something similar to Blue Cat's MB-7 Mixer you could possibly insert two instances into that using a single Sonar channel or buss.

That's a great idea. Save it as a preset. Bam. Blue Cat Patchwork, Kore 2 and Akai Advance VIP software 2.0 update due out soon would also work.
