DELAY BETWEEN PLAYING AND HEARING SOFT SYNTHS & DRUMS FROM A KEYBOARD

Folks,  I've been working on the basic rhythm tracks for a new song/project.  The drums and soft synths record perfectly until I add an audio track.  Then I get a delay between playing the keyboard and hearing the soft synth/drum sounds.  When I delete the audio track everything is fine again.  I'm using a Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 audio interface.  Appreciate all your good thoughts.  Thanks!  James Mayer

I'm not sure what's really going but try pushing the PDC button up there on the ribbon strip. See if that helps.

When I get midi delay it's one of 2 things. I have a "look ahead" effect on my master buss  like the LP 64 thingy or I forgot to shut of the internet and windows is busy doing what ever it is a Window does.

My money is on the fact that you have a look-a-head plugin (like a linear phase EQ) on the audio track that you add.

Windows 10 64bit fully patched, 16 gig ram .
PCR-800 Controller.  (Working in Win 10 1809 64bit)
CPU: i5 4670.
Video: Nvidia GTX560ti (latest drivers).
Audio IF: Focusrite 2i2 2nd Gen

Internet always on.

Hi. My guess would also be plugins that increases the latency by design, i.e lookahead.
All the best.

Bitman, The PDC button did the trick!  Thanks so much!!!

Sock Monkey... I'll try fooling with the look-ahead effects as you suggested and see if I can find a way to keep most of the effects running while I write and record new soft synth parts. That would be nice.

Zargg, thanks for weighing in!

Best to all!

The rule of thumb is to NOT use these plug ins while tracking to keep latency under control.
Only turn them on while mixing and listening. Most of them are Mastering Plug ins anyhow.
And it's only some of the that can cause issues. I've never had Pro Channel or Breverb cause delay.. only the LP stuff.

You can set the LP plugins to 'Non-linear' precision, under the 'Expert' button, and use them as normal plugins without the look-ahead latency.  Soft synths will work this way.  But switch to any of the linear modes and you will get big delay.

The L-Phase equalizer works a bit like Quad Curve EQ, and has a nice UI.

Just keep the 'Linear' settings 'Low, Medium, & High' for mastering.

If you use a DAW that has a second audio engine for recording you can keep all your plugins ON no matter what the delay (within reason I suppose). this would be of great help to Sonar if they can do it in the future.

I have mentioned this to peoples on Facebook and they get very angry. But it is a fact.

Cheers
