DX/DXi problems on Win7

I'm finally moving from XP to Win7 64 bit (on a HexCore machine).  It seems that DX and DXi plugs aren't being installed/recognized correctly.  When I open a project with DX plugs in either 8.5.3 or X1, it complains that it can't locate any of the DX assets.

Is there something that I need to do (or have done) in order for these to be either installed correctly or recognized by the host?

They all seem to show up in the registry under...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs

...and have individual entries under...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\CLSID
...and...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Classes\CLSID

Hmm...is one of those wrong?

do you have sonar 8.5 installed with x1 or just x1?

there is a different plug in directory for dx plug ins then there is for vst plug ins.

    c/programfiles/cakewalk/shared plug ins

    that is the dx directory.

    the vst is

    c.programfiles/cakewalk/vst plugins

I've installed 8.5.3 and X1.  I'm well aware of the different directories that VST's and DX plugs go into.  Are you running Windows 7 64 bit?

32 bit DX's won't run in Sonar 64 bit. They have to be specifically rewritten/recompiled if I am not mistaken. Best bet may be to wrap the DX's in a freeware DX's-vst wrapper then let bit bridge do its thing. Sounds convoluted but it works - I do this for Cake's own FX3 DX to get it to work in X1.

Some DXs and DXis don't work under 64 bit Sonar, for example, Dimension Pro and Rapture. If you must use the DXi versions of these, then you need to run the 32 bit version of X1.

The problem is...I am using 32 bit SONAR X1 (and 8.5.3)...I'm just doing it under a 64 bit OS.  I was hoping to get the 32 bit stuff working before making the final jump to 64 bit.

I've been migrating away from DX plugs (rather unintentionally), but there's still a boatload legacy projects I have where I've used DX stuff.

I'm on Win 7 x64 but run SONAR 8.5.3 and X1 exclusively as 64 bit apps.

I can get all DX plugins to work but i use a wrapper called Effects Chainer for the ones not yet ported to 64 bit. It works very well as it not only wraps 32 bit DX's it allows you to create chains of fx mixing VST's as well as DX plugs. very versitile.

Just checked the site for a link but it seems it's no longer available for download. If you like I can email it to you as its only a small file. There are also others out there but I haven't used any of them.

I know that 32 bit DX plugs run under a 64 bit OS as I use Sony's Sound Forge 10 which also runs DX plugins and they are all 32 bit. Using the aforementioned wrapper I can use all of them in SONAR as well including Sony's famous Wave Hammer compressor.

Can you get all of the old DSP:FX series DX plugs to work?  I've never gotten the reverb to load, and one other one which I can't remember at the moment..

thing is,if i were you,i would rid yourself from them all together and start out fresh.
when i moved from cakewalks pro audio 9 to sonar home studio i tried using a wrapper to wrapp up the dx plug ins as stated by someone earlier.
it turned my directorys in to a mess.(because if something didnt work,id try another way)i never recovered and reformatted, changed my cloths and never looked back again.
what i did do though was save the audio and midi tracks and imported them to homestudio and created new versions with different plug ins.
you may find this takes old projects and gives them a whole new feel.

im sure this isnt what you want to do.but i hope you dont have a headache after this.i know i did.
but your not me,you may have better luck.

speaking of which, good luck on this  :)

Then you'll have to be more specific about which ones aren't working. Most of mine seem to be working in the 32-bit Sonar under 64-bit Windows.

    Re:DX/DXi problems on Win7 2012/04/29 12:45:19 (permalink)
    Funny...

this is a very confusing issue... I've been struggling with it for a few weeks now as well... Here's an interesting item.... I don't know what I did or changed (maybe an OS update?)

One of the 32bit DX plugins I've been very sad about was the Lexicon Pantheon as I use it as a goto for so many things... I could get it to load in sonarx86, but not in the 64bit... then I was rebuilding (yet one more time) on a Mac Pro booting into Vista64 and guess what? Lexicon Pantheon is now working in SonarX1dExpanded x64!

Too bad I couldn't get it to do that for VSampler as that's my last stumbling block from the past.... Until the day comes that I can replace more things....

Right now I'm in desperate need of a copy of win7UltimateX64 as well as a new audio interface for this mac.... I can't activate the Vista64 partition as it's already been activated on my other machine.... and a firewire/usb interface as my old PCI can't work as there are only PCIe slots and only a (maybe) beta version of 64bit driver for it anyway (old Soundscape/SSL Mixtreme192 card)....

But not to de-rail the thread... Back on the 64bit plugin issue...

I really could use a new wrapper...

mudgel.... Could you send me the wrapper you're using? It may be the ticket to get VSampler DXi running?
I tried to PM you but it won't send to you... I would be happy to give you my email address... I'll try here but it may block me that...

    Much Thanks...
