DXI Instruments Stuck Midi Notes

Hi all.... I purchased Sonar X3 as an upgrade from LE that came with my Roland QUAD-CAPTURE. I want to use TTS-1 as a general module for my sounds but find it unusable. When adding a new instrument track for TTS-1 the track is created properly. Then I play on my keyboard and I get missing notes and suddenly notes get stuck and can only be stopped with the panic button. I also get this with the Groove Synth. These are both DXI instruments. All VST instruments behave correctly and do not have this problem. I tried everything I could think off. Newest drivers.. Windows Updates... Changed buffer sizes and driver types for both the midi settings and the driver settings (but want to stick with ASIO). I must have tried every setting and combination available. Even at a buffer size of 1024 the problem remains.

I use Win7 64-bit with 8GB mem on a quad core and tried both the 32-bit and 64-bit version of Sonar with and without the X3e patch. All the same. Also setting the Tone control behaves strangely. Swithing Tone control on mutes the sound untill the mid knob is turned clockwise which results in some sound but ah well.... mid.... :-) Setting the bass or high without first adding mid will result in no sound.

I have the feeling there is a problem with DXI in Sonar X3. Or am I doing something wrong. It's the only module with a nice range of sounds in this version. So this is a dissappointment.

Help... anyone out there that can help me? Most appreciated.

If you're inserting synths in the FX bin of an audio track, try setting them up as the Input to an audio track from the synth rack instead.

Also try setting MIDI "Prepare Using" buffer to 500ms if you haven't already. Preferences > MIDI > Playback and Recording.

    Hi Brundlefly,

Thanks. I tried with the same results. I also installed my older Sonar X1 and could not reproduce any of the problems there. Apparently there is nothing wrong with my hardware. For now I also found out that if I, after adding a new instrument track with a DXI, record a few measures and do a playback the stuck midi notes problem is over. Well that's a workaround I can live with.

As for the tone control I have no clue. What I did find is that the paramaters for the Tone are non registered parameters.

Well.... Strange DXI behaviour. Maybe no one hardly uses these instruments any more.

So the stuck notes problem was only with live MIDI input on initially starting/opening a new project, and playing back some pre-recorded MIDI solved the problem?  And am I right that you were initially inserting soft synths into the FX bin? That has definitely been known to cause problems with stuck notes. But then I'd be surprised that changing that didn't immediately fix the whole problem. If all notes were "sticking", I would think maybe your controller sent a sustain pedal down message without a corresponding up at some point, and stopping the transport on the first playback zeroed all the controllers (per the setting in Preferences > Project > MIDI), including sustain.

As for the TSS-1 tone controls silencing the output, I missed that on the first reading but that's an old bug. You'll just have to avoid them, and use EQ on audio tracks.

I have used the TTs-1 as my go to, start a project synth for a long time now.
I have used it in 4 versions of Sonar both 32 and 64 bit. To me it has been the only synth that is rock solid dependable. And I have gone in a tweaked a few parameters too, never touched the tone controls however, guess I glad I didn't.
But you only want to use the TTS-1 for a GM sketch pad to listen to pre done midi files and get your song going. There are much better sounding synths included with ,,, oh ,,that's right,, you have x3 which is limited, that's why I went with Studio as it has way more, any how, look on the KVR web site and try the freebies and demos. I think you can upgrade to Studio cheap and that will be money well spent.
