Daddy Never Treats You Right! New vocal.

I had a song, and I had the title line... from that I wrote this song.

It's always fun to see where a remote thread of an idea will lead and see a whole song emerge from a scrap of an idea.

Enjoy (I hope) - Daryl

DADDY NEVER TREATS YOU RIGHT
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=582907&songID=11591830

Daddy Never Treats You Right

She never got to see the world he said he show her
She never got to see Paree
He never understood. He never got to know her.
The things she really wanted were the things he failed to see

No fancy house. No big fine car.
No Diamons or a swimin' pool.
Now your mind is made up 'bout who you are.
Now you're sick and tired of bein' taken for a fool.

                    chorus:
Daddy never treats you right.
You might get lucky tonight.
You're never gonna make up
You only wanna break up.
Cause daddy never treats you right.
She never gets to dance or go out on the town.
He never takes her anywhere
She looked all around but no answer was found.
He looks right through her like she isn't even there.

She spends her days at home when he's out on the road
Empty hours go crawlin' by.
Nights when he's at home she's still there all alone
Can't take it any longer got to spread you wings and fly.

             chorus:

She said let's go somewhere I gotta get out a here.
He said maybe another day.
What's the use in tryin' she knows he's only lyin'
She's gotta break free now and get away - get away.

She walked out the door and walked down the street
She' d takin all she really could.
I said I'm goin' somewhere would you like to ride along
She smiled and said you know I think I really would.

Your music definately has a style Daryl. Sounds really good to me. And that Musicians Friend starter guitar sounds great! :-) If a woman told me Daddy never treats her right? My next line would be WHO'S YOUR DADDY! WHO'S YOUR DADDY!

    Robby - Funny!  Thanks.

Frank - Thank you.  Like I said, I had the title line and I just let that take me where it would.

Shad - Thank you.  That's my tricked out M-800.  While I've owned 36 guitars over the years, some very nice ones included and as much as like my Campellone archtop, the M-800 is the only guitar I can honestly say that I'm actually in love with.  It gorgeous and it sings to me.

Hi Daryl - I always look forward to a new piece by you. The composition and performance is always outstanding. And what I particularly love are the lyrics - not just a great musician but an inspired poet too! When the Muses were handing out the talents, they certainly gave you special treatment!

    k701 cans:

    Stunning bouncy and sweetly performed.

While complete and wonderful as is,

some more vox counters might be welcome, to my ears, and/or backing vocs (bass, female, etc.) to give more 3-D pomp to the dominant vox.

    This TOTALLY ROCKS!

Daryl - Dang that's a cool name.  Thanks.

Phillip - There is 3 part harmony on the chorus... I hope you can hear it.  Also at one spot in the next to the last verse.  Thank you.

James - Thanks.  I went into this thinking there was no way I could sing it in that key but a couple of Famous Grouse scotches losened me up enough.

Terry - There is a bass line piano part throughout the song.  I'm a very very simple piano player and a lot of times I will use just the left had to hand that nice piano bottom end sustain.  Thanks.

Mark - Thanks guitar buddy.  I'm flattered because you are one of my rock guitar heros, your riffs are always freash and imaginative... and fast... always fast.   I wish I was half that fast instead I'm just half-fast (or something like that.)

Herb - That's just the way I felt.  I had the music and needed lyrics.  I just blurted out the title line while trying different phrases to find a hook and when I first heard it, it stuck.  It felt like a song.  Thank you.  This is the first year in 20 years I didn't make my spring trip to North Carolina.

Hey Daryl - you're on a roll at the moment huh ? Seems like a new Daryl tune every time I look on here lately. Nice tones as always, the drums could be further forward for me, but I'll qualify that comment with the fact that I'm listenining on laptop speakers, so make of it what you will.

Like it, really well executed. My fav is the vocals. My mix nit is the snare, sounds muffled with no "crack".

It has that 70's California vibe.

Nicely played, the production is a little cold as Philp has suggested, some extra backing vocals would really bring your vocals out.

Apart from that the production and mix are great.

    Nice Job

Rimshot -  I always feel the same way about the guitars   Thanks.

Cian - I'm not sure my ears would know a crack from a thumb.   Glad you liked the vocals!

Neb -  There are backing vocals on the chorus.  Perhaps I need to bring them up.  I feel like I'm strating to get a little more consistent on the mix.  But drums continue to elude me.

Steve - Thanks.  Tone is king.

Dean - My setup is pretty standard / simple ...

I use an EMU-1820M for my input and preamp (I'm planning on upgrading to a tube preamp / channel strip over the next year.)

Acoustic guitars and vocals go through a MikTek C7 condenser mic and electric guitars  go through my Carr Mecury amp and then a Sennheiser e906 cab mic.  On this tune the guitar was routed through 2 stomp boxes - BBE Sonic Stomp and an Xotic RC Booster.

I record the bass directly into the EMU and add the PSP compressor to the effects bin.

Other than the stock tools in Sonar 8.5 - I use the PSP Old Timer compressor (I use it on everything - guitar, vocals, bass, piano...) and Ozone 4 for mastering which are my two favorite plug-ins.

I try to record everything at least -4 to -6 db.  This gives me a clearer mix and you can always pump up the volume with Ozone at the end.

Unfortunately I use drum loops which limits me a bit on drum tracks, but I have no experience with drum programming... although when I retire next year I plan on taking the time to learn.

Thanks, so glad you liked it.

cool lyrics, great tone on that guitar. i'd like the kit a little thicker but the sparseness of the programming is perfect. great stuff Daryl!
