Dang it! Dang Metronome again

ARRRRrrrrgggg. Is this a flaw or is this the way it's supposed to be?

When you've set a "record count in" in the Metronome Preferences (say 2 measures), you ALWAYS get that record count of two measures whether "metronome during record" is active or not. It seems in all logic that when you don't have the "metronome during record" active, you'd want not to hear the metronome and you wouldn't get the count-in.

I have to go into the preferences and change the count in back to "0" everytime I just want to shut the dang metronome off.
This is the way it was in Sonar 8 as well, but I had hoped they changed it. Is this the way it's really supposed to be?

Open a new file, turn off the metronome completely (including the count-in), and save it as a new (or overwrite the 'normal') template. Then use that template. You're 2 clicks away from resolving this.

I don't understand. Well, I understand what you're saying, but how does that resolve the problem?

It's always been this way as far back as I remember and a good job too, I use it all the time. It's not new to X1.

The reason is I want a count-in but no metronome on while recording is I track my scratch lines to a drum beat from one of my drum machines MIDI sync'd to Sonar, I don't want a "tick tick tick TICK" going on in the background as well. Imagine trying to start recording and then guess the first downbeat.

If you don't want a count in set it to 0 for quick access right click the metronome on button in the control bar. If you want that as default save it as a template.

Save as a template: good idea.

Well it solves the problem in this way: Saving as a new template allows you to choose the status of the metronome when you create a project, rather than being frustrated at the fact you forgot it was gonna count-in by default.

For some, its not even a problem. Many people start their trackings by keying in drum hits from a controller and recording the midi track. Those folks are likely OK with the count it.

Inconvenience? Maybe, but if you can click yer way around it and keep it from bothering you, I'd say that's resolving the 'problem'.

I deleted the metronome and saved the template.  Works for me.

I like 2 measures before I start a song but I DO NOT want the cake metro in there.

Yeah, it's really not that big of a deal; my first post did seem kind of whiny. And I've gotten around it so far with, like you say, a few clicks.

I'd just like to have one button which activates and deactivates the metronome during record. So you push the button, the metronome is on, you push it again; voila, the metronome is off; and no two measures of silence while I wait for the track to begin recording. Usually I use a two measure count-in, but once my first midi track is down, I don't use the metronome for every track after that-- only some. So this is a lot of going back into the preferences and switching that 2 measure count-in back to 0 every time I don't want to use the metronome. Just seems a simple on/off button would be effective.

Thanks for the suggestions, though. I will try them.
