Great tune.  Man I thought my tune was dark but you win.  Nice lead vocal.  The mix painted the song really well.  I probably would have done things different but it wouldn't have been better.  The atmosphere was very cool.  I would have screwed that up.  Nice job.

Hi, James,

Stellar job on this hauntingly beautiful new Nettlesmith song!

It's always a treat to hear you and Tim working together and you definitely have a very recognizable signature sound for Nettlesmith that never disappoints!

I'm on my third listen, and I love the clean tremolo guitar over the dark crunchy chords which sets a perfect bed for Tim's powerful vocals, and as always, Ed did a bang up job on the perfect bass tone and playing to match the style of the song.  The tasty guitar solo tone is right on the money and well fitting with the theme, and the mix sounds warm and vintage, which I think is a perfect match for the mood of the song, similar to the early Doors stuff that I always loved.

Dynamite work, James, Tim and Ed, great stuff!
Bob

Late to the party but sheesh great mix of a great tune. Let him sing the phone book and you mix it, and Ed bass it up. A winning combo.

I really like the ambience on this song. Can you elaborate a little more on how you used delay and reverb to make it happen.
Cheers

Thanks Waldemar, maybe these screenshots of the console view will help, it'll show you the various sends and reverb busses, and which tracks have tempo delay on.

Reverb is a freebie called 'Protoverb' which I really like. The delay is BT Tempo Delay from the Nomad Factory set that was included with Sonar Pro.

I skipped listening to this one because going by the title I figured it would be death metal or something else I wouldn't care for. I'm surprised. It's actually very good. I like that bit of tremolo at the end. I usually don't care much for tremolo, but in small doses it's very effective. Bass was great by the way.

James, et.,al.

Really fine track at every level.   I don't recall hearing any previous Nettlesmith songs where Tim really pushes his voice aggressively as in this song.   Normally I think he sounds like Peter Gabriel but now hear a little Paul Rodgers quality in the more aggressive tones.

Very well produced, mixed, played, etc..   Also appreciate the simplicity of ther mix template that you outlined in this thread.   Shows you don't need a lot of crazy stuff in your mix if you have already provided good source quality, playing ability and overall talent.   Good stuff.

Thanks a lot Mark! Paul Rodgers was a big influence on Tim, when we formed a band in 1979 the first cover we did was Free's 'Walk In My Shadow'.
