Dead links and dodgy text editors on website + why is MP3 encoding not included?

When exporting MP from Sonar X1 I get:
The MP3 encoder must be unlocked before use. Please visit http://www.cakewalk.com to upgrade a previous encoder or to purchase a new encoder.

Ouch.... I'm really suprised you don't get a license with the producer edition!!!!!!! That does not fulfill my customer expectations consider the £££ paid for the top end of the product.
Anyway....
The dialogue asks me to visit http://www.cakewalk.com/ , nothing like a direct link eh
 
So after googling I get:
http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/2007012947 (got the link via http://www.cakewalk.com/support/faq.aspx)
... which does not mention Sonar X1 at all, only version 1,2,3 etc.
On that page If I click on MP3 encoder (or any other MP3 link) I then get:
The requested product could not be loaded...
So dead links / irrelevant info all round.... Great...
 
After more searching I see it is for sale here:

Just a FYI (hope Cakewalk fixes this).
Whilst on the subject of the website, the text editor does NOT WORK very well with Firefox 6. After submitting a post line feeds disappear. There is not rich text editing. Cakewalk you need to upgrade the editor software on your website... not everybody uses IE.

    Why not use the free LAME encoder - many here do and it seems to work fine. You can find it at http://lame.sourceforge.net/download.php

    Have seen this many time before. CW doesn't include the mp3 encoder with Producer or any of their Daws. They did back with Pro Audio 8 or 9. I forget which. So your not paying for it not matter how much CW charged for the SW you got. They do this to keep costs down. If they include mp3 conversion with the Daw, they would have to pay a fee for every copy sold whether or not the customer uses/wants it or not. So CW give you the choice/option to pay for it, or use another alternative!! Like a free mp3 converter!! About your web site experience, I don't know much about that.

    Hmm, just noticed line feeds missing, as you say (I didn't read your original post properly after the MP3 part). {new line should be here} Can't quote either using FF6, also text editing toolbar missing. This all was fine with Firefox 5.

    Yes I noticed something was wrong. But thought CW had taken away some Creature Comforts!! Yes I have FF6 also and am not seeing all the stuff Alex talked about. To be honest I didn't get it the first time!! It was only after coming back and rereading it that I was like Duh!!!

    FF6 seems to be having a lot of issues here..might want to explain issues with Firefox Forums as well...and ASPPlayground ..which is this forums developer...

    I read here and there that Firefox updates cause problems - something is fixed and a new problem occurs.
    Perhaps it's Frefox that should be fixed?? I assume this forum software, which really isn't the top of it's kind, is an application used by many companies, not being excusively in CWs use. If so, shouldn't a new FF version be made to work with the web-site applications that are already in use?

    Firefox has gone through 3 major updates in just a few months (4 > 5 > 6). That once rock solid browser is beginning to get under my skin. Until they stabalize their platform, no web developer is going to update their programs to accomodate.

    Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take!

    or... download Audacity.. its free, an handy easy recorder/sample prep tool and also does plenty of file conversion.

    I don't have any issues with editors with other websites and FF. Guess that should speak for itself, and besides those links ARE dead. Cheers.

    Audacity still requires you to install an MP3 decoder - the following is stated on their website:
    "Because of software patents, we cannot distribute MP3 encoding software ourselves. Follow these instructions to use the free LAME encoder to export MP3 files with Audacity."
     
    It's the patent issue which prevents many software houses distributing MP3 encoders with their apps.
