Deals are up at discuss.cakewalk.com

Under the coffeehouse, but here's a direct link.
https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/forum/34-deals/

They even have a poll:

1. I need more gear because
  • The tree wasn't big enough
  • New gear makes me a better person
  • More gear = strong economy

The New Cakewalk forum looks like a real nice clean fresh start .
That's a good strategy including a deals section over there ..

To the great Beyond...
One reason is that I don't understand the "need" for an entire
new forum.  This forum has been here, and has been far too
valuable for far too long.  But that's up to Bandlab.  I just think
that it's not a good idea myself, and, since Beyond is where I was
going if they DID shut this forum...not they ARE...so I AM

I think we should support BandLab. I have a background managing and advising on digital marketing, websites & ecommerce and have started and ran a couple of small dot coms and I definitely don't think it's unreasonable for BandLab to want to use different technology for their forum. It's not a big deal to adapt. To those who use their DAW, it would be wise to use their forums. I don't want to go to a bunch of different forums. I'm an old KVRer. (back to their early days and even made friends I've visited on 3 continents from that place). KVR, here and VI Control once in a while are more than enough for me. I want to shorten up the time it takes to find things, not add to it; I have two young kids, so my time is limited. But thanks to Larry and for those who are leaving. I appreciate all the time you've taken over the years and I doubt any single person could equal the job Larry has done. Kudos on a job well done!

BandLab got Sonar and relaunched for free. Now, they just want to migrate to their own forum, no big deal. You create an account and you continue posting like now.

I guess some people are less adaptive than others...

I checked out the other site, but I'll probably end up at the bandlab forum.  The other site is nice, but to each his own.

Same here, I guess, but sure hope King Lars will reconsider. The new BandLab forum looks nice and works properly even on a mobile. Lots of love for the Bapu but Beyond just doesn’t work for me.

This forum software has been problematic (nice word for crap) for quite some time now - posts randomly disappearing, many functions no longer working properly, sometimes I can log in but can't post anything at all, so a good enough reason in itself to make the change IMO. Only a matter of time before any regulars here have switched to the new one so it will be much the same as here, probably busier if anything and it actually works properly.

Missing you already. ;)

A search function that actually works could be a reason. Also you know what lurks deep inside this forum especially prior to the more active moderation. For what it's worth, I thought those times were great but popcorn threads don't hold the potential to hit me in the hip pocket. As much as I somewhat agree with your sentiments, I could also see why a new company would want to distance themselves from posts upon posts of people getting "sonared."

Those were the days though!!!😜

Can’t create new account, no notifications of threads, etc. A new functional forum will be most welcome.

Bandlab invested money in a more modern platform.  While I don't like that this one couldn't just be upgraded, I know just enough about this type of thing to expect that this change is reasonble.  And the fact our current logins work over there makes the move more painless.

I think you are doing a diservice by focusing your time on a platform that will have limited adoption despite the fact it is a "cross platform" forum, not to mention only a few of us would actually move to Beyond with any regularity.  Bandlab is the new home for Cakewalk users.

Realistically, you are the primary reason anyone would go to Beyond for what you contribute.  I hope you reconsider moving to Bandlab instead.  I think the value you provide will be greater there.

I'm actually the first one who lobbied for a new forum software to Meng for the reasons mentioned above. I've been pushing for a new forum for a long time because everything about APG sucks. The search sucks, the mobile sucks, the disappearing threads sucks, the time limit to see threads on the main forum page sucks... the list goes on and on.

I was hoping they might move the existing threads over to the new software but I get why they want a fresh start. Plus, something tells me that there is no conversion for the new software. I personally wish they would have went with the more mainstream XenForo but I'll take what I can get at this point. Especially if it has a better search function because the one here makes me want to destroy things.

Is the real reason that you are insulted that Bandlab placed deals as a subcategory beneath the new coffee house?

A forum is what the users make of it, and a forum without users is a totally useless thing. The new forum will be where people go, so easy choice imo. I dont understand people who would rather go somewhere else, will be a very lonely existence. Also, lets support the company who kept the software alive rather than pout about things not being EXACTLY the way you might have wanted it. In my humble opinon of course. :)

I tried and tried, believe me. Simply not a good experience. As much as I cherish the bapster, I think I’ll go where BandLab goes.

The potential for all of us gaining benefits from ideas on Deals is much stronger at Beyond My DAW - if you think about the potential.  Since that's a DAW neutral site, once folks from other DAWs start learning about it and also joining Beyond My DAW to visit Larry's Deals - they'll also contribute discoveries they've run across.

It has a lot more potential, especially with Larry driving the energy of it, to help us all.

Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

Re: Deals are up at discuss.cakewalk.com 2018/12/28 04:16:07 (permalink)
don't have any major issues with current forum.. *BUT* do understand why bandlab are different...

cakewalk hasn't been "cakewalk" for years, i feel sad to say , when Greg sold up.. just felt like the unwanted DAW that various companies wanted to get the IP / info and source code from.. then sell on

without hardware products that say yamaha (steinberg) / apple (logic) / presonus have.. then it kinda "stuffs"  anyone who is solely software DAW based and subsidicing any hardware with a copy of the latest thing.

must be really odd fo anyone who was involved for years. esp. the likes of Noel etc. BUT my friends in the game industry were "sold on" 3 times without even moving desks.

I won't support / buy roland or gibson or avid for what they have done in recent, sadly as a result. the whole "sell for IP" etc.. just leaves employee's wondering if they have a job the next week.. (and yes avid, I won't forget what you did to london staff for a *VERY* long time)
