Dear brave Sonar 5 users...

Why did you do it? What was wrong with your previos config? Was it just plain curiosity or were you having issues with your last version? Please explain this!

    I did it for:

    1. Improved track comping
    2. Bus waveform preview
    3. Peak markers
    4. 64 bit audio engine

... and I don't regret it for one moment!

There were many reason's for me leaving SONAR 4 and moving on to SONAR 5:

In no particular order, but these are new features that I have already used and will continue to use, in my projects:

    Perfect Space convolution VST plugin
    Updated MIDI FX plugins
    Clip-Based FX
    Track Templates
    64-bit double precision mix engine
    Support for 32bit float files
    64bit wave file export
    Roland V-Vocal
    Track Icons
    Per Track Layer Mute/Solo
    Inline Audio/MIDI
    Bus & Synth Waveform preview
    Dockable windows
    Track & Bus Peak Markers
New Key bindings (like Track View)
Ability to use files with different bit depths in the same project
Ability to create fade ins/outs on multiple tracks at once
    Interleave indicator in FX bins
    New non-segmented meters

I didn't want to have to pay extra when Cakewalk releases "Sonar 6 The Ultimate" and only gives a break to "current" users... Don't cha just hate that, eh?

nice .. actually here all the emails with "Increase Your" get filtered...they go straight to the spam/junk folder... so did i miss anything ? ;)

(i did upgrade to 5 / 5.01 after reading the emails without the word "increase" in the subject... maybe i should check the Bulk folder more often.."please your partner" sounds not that bad;)

Because I was waiting for the 4.0.4 patch, which came something like the day after I ordered my upgrade.

Glad I did. PerfectSpace cannot get enough praise by me!

There are many good reasons for go s5 - track templates being a major one for workflow.

I did it for the ultimate reason. When i decided to upgrade to Sonar version 4 for merely $179.99, Cakewalk told me they would give me Sonar 5 for FREE...FREE I TELL YOU!! Would you pass on Sonar 5 for FREE.

In addition, I love the track templates and the the "Tabbed Dock windows locked to the track view. I bet I can beat you in setting up 18 tracks at random with compression, EQ, delay, all Sonitus and Waves plugins set properly to the correct settings, with panning already in place. I can do all of this in seconds, with track templates. YEEE HAA !!

Hey, if you didn't get in on that deal.. then shame on you..

    Peace

Sonar 5 is really leaps and bounds beyond S4, much moreso than S4 was to S3, IMO. For all the reasons listed above, and especially that so many of the new features in S5 are ones that I actually use all the time.

    I did it for:

1.) the roland groove synth. replaced my mc505. so i sold it.

2.) perfect space. there arent enough expletives to describe how good this is. i love sir, i love love PS.

    3.) the price. $179? cmon!

4.) to support cakewalk, a company making software which i use almost non-stop. important one!

5.) the new minor improvements like insert tracks (want it customizable though), 64 bit engine, seems like everything just works a tiny bit better--- and yes, the vst does too.

because 5 is one bigger than 4.

I was less intrigued by the S5 (on paper) than any other SONAR release.

Just so happens, I needed to do a clean OS image.... so it seemed a good time to upgrade from 4.04.

Turns out, I'm more enthralled with S5 than I have been with all previous versions.
Many new features seemed frivolous staring back at me from a spec sheet, but in practice they are tangible improvements.

Major workflow increases and completely solid.

I upgraded to 5 ... well, just because. The price, $179 for all that new stuff is just too good to pass up. Many of my plugins cost more than that.

I'm so glad I made the upgrade. Of course V-Vocal and Perfect Space make it worth the price, but it's the enhanced track comping, solid stability and a lot of little enhancements that make it a joy to work with.

Just ordered it yesterday - it will be ariving tommorow. I did it because:

1 - Liked having a good vocal corrector that costs less than 200 bucks
2 - Business decision to keep all production software current
    3 - Going to 64 bit soon
    4 - Perceived productivity enhancements
5 - I get to choose a Christmas gift from my wife to me (its a mutual tradition)

I think that number two was the strongest driving factor. I do temper this with making sure a bug release is out which 5.01 is available

    Best Regards,

    Lance

A lot of them aren't really bugs at all and get worked out by user-to-user communication. That's what the forum's here for. Check out CW's competitor's forums right after a new release. You'll find the same, if not much worse, situations there.

    Worth the price of admission.

Perfect Space and V-Vocal are worth it alone.

It was a major jump from Sonar 3 Studio edition.
