Dear santa...

Dear Santa,
I've been a very good boy this year. Please bring me a new (or used) JA-90 Telecaster.
I'm a "Les Paul" kind of guy, so this Fender really rocks my boat in a good way:
Hard-tail tune-o-matic bridge!!!, Two Seymour Duncan P-90's!!!, semi-hollow!!!
Wow, gotta love it.

Hi,

I only want one thing ... some peace and quiet and appreciation in my own family about the whole house/estate thing ... it's gotten so bad and ridiculous, and adults can't even talk ... saddest thing I have ever seen in my life!

So Santa ... take your **** and get lost ... since it's impossible to get what is most important in life! Some love and some care, and some beauty ... well, let me re-phrase that ... a guitar will help, but we need more than just that, right?

Heck, I want a synthesizer ... anyone got one in the garage they want to let go for $10?

Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

I had this in a cupboard for 25 years or so, you could have had it for nothing.

Sadly, it's now on a landfill somewhere in Scotland.

It's a little hard to tune. :D  Sounds twangy and like a 12 string.  I've already written one song on it.

Offered in the spirit of FWIW:

I've been thinking about selling my Kurzweil K2000RS VAST synth (rack, sampling option, with Pop and Orchestral sound blocks, V3 s/w). It comes with an Apple CD drive, cartridge drive, and a bunch cartridges and sound CDs. It's been in my studio unused, at least since my heart attack/transplant event. It's only downside: it's got a dim screen (which is easily replaced). It's probably out of your price range @$300.

“Beer is proof God loves us and wants us to be happy” is attributed to Benjamin Franklin perhaps in error, but the thought remains a worthy sentiment nonetheless.

He's obviously looking for one that's half-VAST.

More like one for a beginner ... I'm not sure I could figure out my way around a VCS3, for example, or even a Prophet-5 ... but I seem to do OK just fiddling with the Arturia software for the Jupiter, although I have to make sure I save things, because I would not know, at this point, how to get back to them, and that is part of the problem ... I think, not knowing what all the filters do and having a better knowledge of their pathing and work.

So far, that software is really nice, but it really is advanced, as opposed to being good help for beginners, and that's kind of my issue. I would like to be able to start with a noise and bring it up from there, and have a slight tutorial of some of the things that can be done with one sound ... there are some in the internet, but they are on every different synth you can think of, and it is really confusing ... to get going, which is the reason why I have asked for some help here and there, which would include Sonar in the whole thing for a beginner ... I still can't get around Sonar properly, as the tutorials are not for beginners, either! I spring some dollars for the book, and got to page 100, and still can't get anywhere ... the whole thing does not start with the easiest thing of all ... let's plug this in and record it ... or just open this and now do this and then do this ... kind of thing ... heck, learning to use a bicycle was easier for me!

I figured I just offer; I really am not sure what to do anyway. I'm kind of in a similar frame of mind with an Oberheim Matrix 6R and an Oberheim Matrix 1000 (and a bunch of professional saxophone mouthpieces, but that's something else again...). I just haven't touched them in years.

BTW, from what I know, the Arturia Jupiter (and everything else they offer with the possible exception of the Synclavier) is the same OS-wise as what they are modelling. So, if you can noodle on the s/w version, you'd probably feel at home on the hardware as well. I'm not entirely sure on this, but it's what I heard/read somewhere.

I never understood the design of the Tele's bridge - Fender do seem to like to put a lot of useless plastic or metal on their guitars.

Then I saw Seymour Duncan's Tele-Gib. Now THAT makes more sense.

Ultimately though, I realized that, despite an aversion that lasted for decades, what I really wanted was a SG (and I got a SGJ 4 years ago today). Now if Santa feels generous, a white SG standard would be a dream... :P

Have you looked at the Korg Monologue?

I haven't played one, but from what I can see it looks about as simple as you can get and even if it's limited in some ways, it still seems to be capable of doing real (and good) mono analog synth stuff for $299.

The sequencer particularly looks both dead simple and awesome.

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.
