Deck The Halls (Melodious Minor Mix) - LAST ONE!!
Hi, The last track for my Christmas EP is now complete... a bit more up-tempo than the other ones, it's a minor version of Deck The Halls. Hope you enjoy it! http://soundcloud.com/pur.erhapsody/deck-the-halls Cheers, Terry.

This kicks azz to the nth degree! Love it done in minors. The arrangement and orchestration is outstanding! The bottom end seems to be boomy and squishy, until 1:38 but it could just be my speakers. Rock on, dude! You're giving TSO a run for their money!

WOW!!!!! Just wow!! And well, that's incredible!!! Big smile here! (The guitar at the end being slightly ahead of the beat gave me pause again, but it's not a deal-breaker.) :)

Hi, Thanks for listening... @Scottytunes - lol, I don't think I'll ever come close to being in the same ballpark as someone that's coming close to giving TSO a run for their money!!! But thanks for the compliment. I had some problems with the bottom end and I thought I'd sorted them out, but obviously not... :( @Janet - Wow? Thanks very much! Glad you liked it! Cheers, Terry.

works very well in this re-imagining! it has almost a Tubular Bells feel to it...as with Janet the guitar playing needs to be just a smidge tighter...very very clever!

Hi Terry, another winner ! Unmistakingly influenced by mike Oldfield, but I might be mistaken ; ). Guitar could use some fast vinger vibrato like Mike does. Rik

Fast vinger vibrato? Do you mean vinegar or finger? Or is that Dutch? :)

@mgh - Interesting that you mention Tubular Bells... I didn't actually try to emulate Mike Oldfield on this one but I'll take it as a compliment as I've always liked his music. @Rik - again with the Mike Oldfield comparison, which again I'll take as a compliment! :) I recorded the guitar track twice, once with me trying vast finger (!) vibrato and once without... you really don't want to hear the version with the vibrato, your ears would bleed! Both of you, thanks for the positive comments! Thinking about the comparisons with Mr Oldfield, is it the piano that makes the association in your head? The similarity there is that at the start of Tubular Bells the piano alternates between a 'pedal' note and something else (which is something Oldfield has admitted he stole from a Bach fugue!) and I do the same here. Or is it the guitar...? If it is the guitar then I'll take that as an even bigger compliment because my guitar composing leaves a lot to be desired! Anyway, whatever it is, it's good news!!! :) Thanks again. Cheers, Terry.

Hi Terry, the guitar style, minus the vibrato, is a dead giveaway, but for me it's the combination of the piano and the percussion. I have been listening to Mike's album "Guitars" lately, no pianos synths or drums, everything done on guitars. And I do mean the comparison as a big compliment.

This is awesome. And you're beating Mannheim and Transiberian to the punch. Every year when I first listen to them fresh I get reminded of how great this style of Christmas music is and now this version is the ice breaker for 2011 and it satisfies in the same way. Love the key and the tempo. Tones are dynamic and the whole song flows nicely. Your description is funny. Probably could have gone longer if you wanted it to. Thanks.

Hi, Thanks again for listening everyone. @Bill - Thanks. I'm a depressing sort of 'minor key' guy so it just seemed natural ;-) @rhinosynth - I've just started to crack out the TSO stuff myself - seems a shame not to listen to it all year round, but I just can't bring myself to listen to it in the summer months. @timidi - thanks! @no how - electro-baroque? Sounds like something I'd like if I knew where to get some ;-) Thanks for the compliment. @BIABDude - + + + thanks! @notnat - thanks! From all the positive comments I guess I've found my niche... "making major tunes minor" :-) Thanks again, Terry.

Hi again, @Janet - thanks for listening to the CD enough times that you now have a favourite! :-D @Kev - thanks! @Guitarhacker - "interesting" is sometimes a polite way of saying "quite rubbish but I see what you were trying to do" :-) But seeing as you also say "Great job" I'll take it differently! Thanks for listening, and for the compliments. @Rimshot - I think I may have overdone the levels on the bass making the low end a bit cloudy - but I lack skills in the mixing and mastering area so you're probably hearing things I would never have a chance of hearing! I need a recording contract or a friend that can spot (and fix) these things. @Wookiee - Thanks! @Julien - Thanks! @Guitarpima -Thanks! I know I'm not the best mixer (possibly a bit lazy!!!) but thanks for listening. I'll look out for the guitar hum on my next project (which features a lot more guitar work). (And Rik if you're still reading, there's actually a whole load of REAL guitar work on my next project..!!!!) :-) @SteveStrummerUK - Thanks for the compliments. I was listening this evening to an early version that I did in a major key and I'm really glad I decided that the minor key was the way to go... Thanks everyone (especially Janet for giving this thread a new lease of life) :-) Cheers, Terry.

My pleasure, Terry. This one deserves a new lease on life anyway. I just heard a new arrangement of 'O Come All Ye Faithful' tonight and I thought of you. It was written, not necessarily in a minor key, but at least a third of the normally major chords were minor. It was really pretty cool. I think you would really have enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I have no idea who did it.
