Default PRV View? Can it be done?

Hello,

I have a customized PRV view I set up (gridlines, track view, velocity tails, etc....)  and I wish to have THIS view loaded every time, in every project going forward every time i open a PRV view on any new track.

Is this possible?

Thanks,
Adam

Hi, I suggest you create your own project template and use it every time.

    Hi there,

I do use my own project template...  but the minute you add a new MIDI track, poof... it goes back to the default view.

    Thanks,
    Adam

How about Screen Sets? They don't work either?

Track view and PRV are two different views(panes), aren't they? Also, what about "gridlines" did you set up? Color? Width? Something else?

    Hi Jlien X,

Nope, screensets don't save the PRV settings :(

Im talking about when you open PRV in a new window. I setup to view gridlines based on the beat division i have selected, color, velocity and other CC automation lanes.... i want that view every time i open a PRV window.

    Thanks,
    Adam

I did a little test here.

Loaded the Normal template -> Loaded SI-Bass Guitar and recorded a take -> Double-clicked the recorded clip (regular PRV opens)

Then I made the following changes in the PRV:

    1. View > Fit MIDI Content
    2. View > Show Clip Outlines
    3. View > Grid Resolution > 1/16 Triplet
    4. Widened the Track Pane (at right)
    5. Widened the keyboard on the left
    6. Zoomed the view holizontally by Ctrl + Right Arrow
    7. Clicked the [+] button in the bottom left corner and added a Wheel lane

Then closed the PRV -> Saved the project -> Restarted Sonar -> Opened the same project -> Double-clicked the Bass clip and checked the PRV

Except 5 and 7, everything looks the same (the Wheel lane is gone maybe because I didn't record any wheel data).

Then closed the PRV -> Loaded SI-Electric Piano -> Recorded a take -> Double-clicked the recorded Piano clip (regular PRV opens)

Again, I see everything except 5 and 7 above appearing the same.

    Maybe I'm misunderstanding something?

Sorry, I forgot to do the most important part.

After that I deleted all tracks in the project and deleted SI-Bass and SI-E.Piano from the synth rack. Then saved the project as a project template file.

Then I restarted Sonar and created a new project using the project template file that I just saved.
I loaded reFX Nexus this time, then recorded a take, then opened the recorded MIDI clip in PRV.

Again, everything except 5 and 7 above appear the same.

BTW, the color(s) you managed to change via Preferences > Customization > Colors should affect all projects.

    Hi Jlien,

Thanks for trying that out.   I am going to save a MIDI view and then save it as a template.   I will report shortly.

I wonder what would happen if you lauched another softsynth, if the PRV would still show the same view?

    I will update soon :)

    Thanks,
    Adam

I just created a new project using the test project template I created yesterday, and then loaded Nexus, M1 and Kontakt and recorded three takes using them. Then I opened the clips in PRV. Strangely, the grid resolution setting has changed to "Follow Snap Settings," and the width of the Track pane has become very very narrow. Hmm...this isn't good.
