Deign

http://soundclick.com/share?songid=9479125

Hey folks.

This is the first pass at a final mix and I wanted to get some opinions.

I just redid the vox this weekend and I think I've never done better at the singing aspect (my biggest weakness as a performer)

Also, this song was huge for me because ... wait for it ... I got the play a real freaking classic Les Paul for the first time in my life!

It was sweet.

Would appreciate all feedback on any aspect of the song or the recording/mix.

Thanks.

ps. I do plan on asking my producer to cut the song by about five seconds to get rid of some of the ending as it is.

Hi there, the guitar is nice. The instruments seem to in front of the mix, ahead of the vocal. I like my mixes the other way, but just personal taste. The changes in the music are good. Blessings

Thanks for the listen. The guy I'm working with knows I don't like my voice so he may be trying to hide it from me. Cheers.

Sounds pretty good to me though I'd also be inclined to edge the vox forward and maybe add a few harmonies / BGV here and there. I think many of us not really singers (myself included) are not entirely comfortable with the sound our own voices, but hey at least we tried ! In the end I just gave up trying to hide it and put it up front and despite the dodgy bits I think it does sound better overall.

Thanks Paulo. I think I did well on the vox here. We put a little delay on my headphones so I had more confidence as I belted it our.

I was also wondering two things about the guitar:

    1. How does the dirty left and clean right fit together?

    2. In the first solo I hit an accidental blues note in the beginning. I can't decide if it fits or needs to be removed?

    Thanks.

It was a little hard for me to listen to sometimes--that body thing. Being a woman, it kinda unnerved me.

Cymbals cut off a little short.
Your voice is actually pretty good. Almost great.  There's a strong, real quality to it. Unaffected, unwarbled, like rock singing should be. Work on your control just a tad, and it will be superb.  But isn't there something that Phillip uses for that called Melodyne? I know nothing about it. I just know that Phillip will throw a pretty raw song onto the forum, then go back and apply Melodyne, and it comes back again sounding great.

Beagle took voice lessons and I could hear the improvement in his voice. I had told him that his voice sounded better, and that's when he told me he'd been taking lessons.

    Great guitars. Wonderful solos.

You are a soloist. Really. All you need is a tad more voice-tweaking and a lot more confidence.

Thanks for the listen Peggy. I'm not much of a moralist and I was trying to express how I both liked my friends physical and intellectual qualities.

That's why I said "like" and "love" to put the emphasis on the emotional rather than the physical.

Thanks for your suggestions on the vox. I took some lessons two years ago and have been performing solo acoustic since then and doing warmups. I have a good friend who is a trombonist in a symphony and also has an ABD in Music Theory. He also writes country style Christian songs and has a great deep rich voice. He has been explaining to me how to use the chest cavity for resonance.

I appreciate the listen and feedback. Thanks. Jeff

I agree--you can sing.  Keep at it. :-)  I didn't hear the accidental note in the beginning.

At times it seemed like a few too many guitars playing at once.  But I may be the only one in the world who thinks that.    Good job!

Hey Janet. Thanks for the listen. I can't tell y'all how good it makes me feel to hear that I am making progress on my vox. Means a lot to me.

The left dirty channel has a few problems with timing I think. It needs a riff instead of just the chord work.

really nice guitar on this, jeffrey!  love the cruch sound.  drums are thin and lifeless, tho - what did you use for drums?  vocals are better in this one than the other song (but still could use a little work, if I may...).  I'll encourage you to keep at the vox, you can do it!  it takes work!

bass is nice in this, too.

yo b! thanks again for checking out my song.

I had a drummer friend lay down the tracks on these songs. He played a DW kit and was recorded on about six mics.

I went to work with a producer friend so I could focus on the performance and not fret about the production.

He just upgraded to some new plug ins and a new set of hardware. He is experimenting with all his new toys. I give him y'all's feedback so I will let him know about the drum sound.

Thanks for the feedback on the gtr and bass. This set is three songs I wrote 20 years ago and I wanted to give them life before I get too old. (turning the big 4-0 this year and I still have so much i want to get done.)

It felt great to bring these songs to life and I appreciate your input.

Well done... nice tune... I don't care for the snare sound... it has an overtone that doesn't work for me... great playing... vocal is pitchy in spots...

Hey, Frank. Thanks for your input. Appreciate the encouragement.

I will ask my friend about how he is treating the snare. I listened close to it this time and it is sort of too loud and a bit too present.

Enjoyed the listen. Your vocal is great. The left guitar is slightly off beat at some instancies. Cut and paste! Neither do I like the snare drum, it has a ringing sound which is a bit annoying. Minor nits, otherwise great performance with a slight live feeling to it!
