Delay between input and output of synths

Hi all,

I'm just setting up my new Sonar X1 DAW and I'm already experiencing some problems. There is a small delay between input and output of all the synths.
For example: I add a "SI-Electric Piano" to my project. When I open the VST settings of that synth and push one of the keys on the virtual keyboard, it takes about 1 second for the sound to be there.

Is that normal? Or is my computer too weak? Can that be caused by wrong settings?

My computer setup:
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 945
Mainboard: Gigabyte MA-770T-UD3P (using onboard sound)
RAM: 2x 2 GiB DDR3-1333
Graphics: ASUS EAH5870
OS: Win7 Prof 32bit

Nice you got it working. It's almost like a rule, though, that the onboard soundchips are not capable of proper DAW-work. It's worth it to start thinking about getting a decent soundcard. Especially if you're planning to record vocals and real instruments (don't even think about USB-mics).

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

Yeah, I know. A new soundcard will be one of my future investments. But for now I gotta go with the onboard chip.
