Yes (sort of). I'm saying, if you want a delay effect on one word, just copy and paste the word (1 or more times) and move it around till it delays the way you like in relation to the source. Either on another track or same track and use clip envelopes to set the volume. If you are talking more of treatment of a whole track, probably better to use envelopes and/or automation of those envelopes (can be done in real time to get a feel for it, and then tweaked). I'd probably use sends and a buss for that in case I want to eq the delay (which I probably would).

You might also try using the copy and paste procedure ahead of the clip. In other words, so the delay (pasted word or note) proceeds the source. Of course it wouldn't be called a delay anymore though:) It's kind of a neat effect.
