Delete hole?
Using Sonar X3 trying to use the "delete hole" option. The music in the tracks is deleted but the hole remains. What am I doing wrong?

There should be a check box that says something like 'Remove Space' or something like that, when you do the delete of the data. Bob Bone

Are you specifying the region to delete in the timeline, or just selecting clips? I don't think a hole can be created unless everything in it is selected, like automation nodes and such. Selecting in the timeline seems to be the fastest way to do this.

I have all the tracks selected and a check mark in the "delete hole" box.

Put a dummy clip of event data (midi or audio) in the hole, then delete. You can't delete empty space. It's been like this for many years and I don't know why this hasn't been addressed.

Sometimes folks insert some data into the section to be deleted, just to make sure some data is there so it will delete the hole properly. Bob Bone

Did you check everything in the Cut Special dialog box?

If SONAR doesn't see anything that can be cut, the Cut Special option is grayed out in the menu. An alternative to the "dummy clip" is to select everything after the hole in the timeline, then dragging left.

Read to OP again. He is deleting data (the area is full of events) but can't get the hole deleted by checking the "Delete hole". " The music in the tracks is deleted but the hole remains". Perhaps the solution is that not everyhting is deleted?

Yes, I do have data in all the tracks I'm trying to delete. The data does get deleted but the space, hole, where the data was will not vanish. Is there some way I can attach my file so someone can try this on their Sonar?

How big is the file? You can probably post it on hightail.com and give a download link. I'd be curious to check it out. Every issue is a potential article or blog post

On a side note, I'm glad Akismet finally figured out that Finland is a country and not an ad for vodka.

>> Read to OP again. He is deleting data (the area is full of events) Whoops, my bad. Sorry. How many bars long is the section you want to delete? Can you try deleting one bar at a time? It sounds as though there is some event data (tempo? Markers? Automation?) that isn't getting selected, but if you're in the "Cut Special" dialog, you get the checkboxes for the event category, and usually it just works. Does the "Event View" show anything for that section of the timeline?

Tried to delete only one bar but hole is still there. Trying to delete 6 measures and now that I looked in the Event View, I see data but there is no audio when it reaches that part of the song.

Tracy, try this: Make a copy of your project (to protect your work as you experiment) Does the problem still exist with the copy? Delete half the tracks in your project. Does the problem still occur with the remaining tracks? Try to isolate the tracks that are causing the problem. Can you "delete hole" from other places in the project timeline? I.e. try to isolate the specific bars that are causing the problem, or show that any track, any bar, has the problem. Can you create a new, simple project, from scratch, and still show the problem?
