Deleting whole measures from a project

Forgive me if this is a stupid question. I've searched around for an answer but can't find one.

I'm looking to remove an empty measure from my project. I don't mean a clip of data, or a measure of a specific track, I mean an entire measure from the project itself. Back when I used Pro Tools I would just select the option to "remove time" from a project and select the range I wanted to remove. The offending measures would be deleted, and the measures to the right would slide left to fill the gap.

In Sonar however, it seems that the only way I can actually remove measures from a project is if they have data in them. That way, I can use "delete special" and select "delete hole." If the measure is completely devoid of data, I cannot select delete from the edit menu. Is there any simple way to do this WITHOUT having to enter some dummy data just so I can access the "delete hole" option?

The alternative is to select all and drag to cover the hole, so the answer is no. The dummy data is probably the quickest way.

Why not put an event into that track - or whatever - and THEN delete and delete space?

I know you can do that, but it's annoying to have to do it and feels like a "hack." It makes sense to have the option of removing time from the project regardless of what's in it.

IMO it should be an option in the "Project" menu, along with "Insert Time/Measures."

    Understood.

I try to avoid having holes.  I have done what I had suggested, and also cut giant holes in tracks to insert space.

Quite the pain -I was just offering a work-around.

    I support your feature request,

I've struggled with this very same scenario, and what I was told  was to just select the appropriate clips and slide them whichever way you need to close the gap....effectively the same as deleting measures.  Seems rather dumb to me...

    Cheers!

Does sliding also move things like tempo changes, automation, meter/key changes etc?

It certainly didn't prior to X1, and I haven't had cause to investigate this recently

No it doesn't as far as I know but cut and paste can. A delete time feature would definitely be a welcome addition. I've FR'd it as well.

@Erik: Sorry, that is wrong refferring to what was said before: the point ist that you can' delete a track when there's no data in, meaning really empty, nada. And that is a bit clumsy in such an elegant DAW like X2 (or X1), isn't it. I agree with sharkee and FBB.

Good point about sliding tracks Bristol.  I haven't had to deal with tempo changes, but I'm pretty sure the automation does not move.   Grrrr....

    Cheers!

Yes, I see now that the OP meant a portion with no data on any track, sorry
