Dell XPS 8300?

I'm thinking of buying a Dell XPS 8300, i7, 16GB to use as a DAW with Sonar 8 Producer. Just a one-person home setup, not a commercial installation. I won't be using the built-in audio. Does anyone have any advice for me on this, or any warnings about Dell, the i7, or maybe a recommendation about something else to buy? The computer is on sale for $1,000 with a 24-inch monitor, and that is pretty much the limit of my budget (before audio interface). Thanks!

I've been running a Dell XPS 9000 (see specs below) without a hitch.
It's been very stable as a DAW.

I bought an 8300 (i7-2600) with 6 gigs of ram a couple of weeks ago and using it as a dedicated Win7-64 studio box.  Works fine...the biggest pain was cleaning up all the factory bloatware.

My only gripe is that there are only 4 USB sockets out back, so I added a PCIe USB card for 4 more sockets.  They seem to get eaten up pretty quick these days and I'm not a big fan of hubs cluttering up the desk.  Also, there is one PCI slot, but it is filled with the video card.  The remaining expansion slots are PCIe.  Good luck...

It should work well, it's a big seller for Dell.  However, with the current hard drive shortages due to the flooding in Thailand I see a lot of back order complaints.  Dell's are built to order.  One of our other Dell community forum regulars suggests if you want it "now" to check retail outlets for a pre-built system.
