Delta66 with Windows 8?
Is anyone using a Delta66 (or 44 or 1010) with Windows 8? mine is working OK, but I've been getting BSODs (well They're actually Gray now) since upgrading to Windows 8 and I 'm thinking the Maudio driver might be causing it. I can't remember the exact error code, but its a I/O not ready type of error, and I think these are driver related. I was looking for other cheap soundcards that have Windows 8 drivers and ESI has them for the Maya and Juli@ cards. If anyone is using a Delta though - at least I'd know that it *could* work ;-)

No Win8 updates for it? I'd say BSODs don't really qualify as working OK. That's kind of like one of the worst things that can happen. Can you roll back to 7 until the manufacturers catch up to 8 with their drivers?

I have a 44 and it works fine. If you're upgrading from Window 7 you don't need to do anything. Make sure you have the latest version though.

Thanks for confirming that it works OK. I have the latest driver 6.0.8 - so I'll look elsewhere for the cause. I just though today that it may be the MIDI drivers (MOTU MIDI Express XT) so I'll check them next - and will reinstall (I'm finding that most things that don't work right in Win 8 - are better after a reinstall. I just upgraded over the top of my Win 7) Beepster - you're right that crashing is a serious problem ;-) It's only happening once in a while - but it used to happen never ;-) The errors are "IRQL less than or not equal to" type messages (I couldn't think of that when I originally posted) - which leads me to believe it's a driver - but it could be *anything*...

Yeah... something else is screwing up. Maybe some of your other computer components need driver updates (BIOS, etc...) or a hard drive is failing. I'm not good at in depth system troubleshooting like that but look around online for tutorials on how to go about it. Tom's Hardware and New Egg have good info for stuff like that on their websites. I think the guys at StudioCat and ADK might offer tech support for a small fee as well... of course you could also get a hold of Cakewalk tech support but seeing as how you are overseas it'd be a costly phone call and they aren't the greatest at replying to emails. You could send them all your details, get the support ticket then call them referencing the ticket number just to get some eyes on it then ask them to email you their opinion. Cheers.

Wait... is the 66 a legacy PCI device? I had problems with my Echo card because of that and bridged as opposed to native PCI support. Maybe the update just pushed it closer to obsolescence. They do sell PCI to PCIe adapters now but that is less than ideal... especially for audio. Just a thought.

I have dropped my 1010 as M-Audio's drivers are just a nightmare....Ranging from SONARDPR.EXE not being able to be killed to BSODS. Nasty M-Audio. Anyone wants to buy a Delta 1010 thats less than a year old then PM me. I have switched to an MOTU Audio Express and it works like a charm in Win 8 on Sonar X2.

btw I found the latest Driver to be an absolute pain...... The most stable one I could find was rolling back to the 5074 driver. jbraner Thanks for confirming that it works OK. They do sell PCI to PCIe adapters now but that is less than ideal... especially for audio. Just a thought. I'm pretty sure it's "legacy PCI". I've got a Asus Z77 chipset motherboard, and it doesn't really have anything to configure for the "legacy" PCI slots. The Delta66 "works" ie there are no dropouts/clicks etc. It's just these occasional BSODs. I reinstalled the MIDI drivers today - so I'll see how that goes. I'd hate to replace the soundcard - and have the problem still unchanged. Of course - there are lads of variables. I upgraded the PC in June, then X2 in September, then Win 8 in October - but I'm pretty sure the problem started with Windows 8. If the crashes still come after reinstalling the MIDI drivers, I'm going to: - try a bigger buffer size (I always used 256 samples on the old motherboard, now it's 128) - then think about replacing the Delta As I said - it's only once in a while it crashes, so it takes a while before I know if a change has "fixed it", but I'll get there... ;-) <makyzno> I made a mental note to look at that MOTU audio interface - although I'd prefer to try a PCIe one if I do change

Was the BIOS on the motherboard updated? A bunch of ASUS MOBOs went out with bad BIOS drivers. Mine had a warning inside the box saying if I didn't update the BIOS I could experience severely instability and BSODs. Lots of info online about it. Be careful though. Sometimes updating the that stuff on an already set up system can cause other wackiness. Might want to talk to ASUS tech support. Cheers.

Oh and I managed to get my PCI based Echo card to work better after optimizing my system for audio so that might be something to look into. Not sure if that would cause BSODs. I just had a lot of dropouts and crashes until I fixed it. I bought a Focusrite Scarlett though just to make sure I wouldn't run into anymore problems. Good luck.

I have a Delta 66 and it's now running fine under Windows 8. HOWEVER, it was getting weird I/O messages with no sound PRIOR to a Windows 8 update I installed about a week after I installed Windows 8. This was a clean install, not an upgrade from Windows 7. IOW the updates to Windows 8 seem to have resolved the problem.

Was the BIOS on the motherboard updated? Yeah - I've got the latest BIOS. IOW the updates to Windows 8 seem to have resolved the problem. yet another variable Thanks for all the ideas though - everybody. It's working great today (mind you it's strictly audio now - everything has been bounced). It will probably be some strange sequence of events that causes the crash - such as: - on a Monday or Thursday - hit the "e" key - loop from measure 34 - 59 - zoom in slightly - load a compressor "this exact sequence of events - in this order..."

You might want to download a program called "Who Crashed" which you can get from this website. It's free for home users. http://www.resplendence.com/main It analyzes the dump files and offers suggestions etc. A fantastic program IMHO. Good luck!

Nice catch! I didn't mean to name my screens of death - I meant *gray* The new improved Windows 8 GSOD trying to keep our hardware up todate with our software. And when we do get t to work, enjoy it.
until we update something again.... PS - I'm starting to suspect the MIDI interface driver now - as I've been doing audio only (everything is bounced) work for the last few days - and it's running like a charm. Of course - it could always go a week or two without a crash anyway...

I've heard the gray/grey/Gary screen of death called a "White Freeze". Equally nice image. I hope you solve your problem, and I think you are looking in the right place at a driver problem.
