That should be fun! So far I've somehow managed to not let myself be tempted by the whole bass VI resurgence, but that one sure is tempting.

You know I like Fender myolpal but you got me curious since there are instruments like Ibanez doing stuff like below that is just unbelievable....was it the short scale being the main factor? Mahogany Body, Spalted Maple Top and Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, Dual Single-coil Pickups, and Active Bass Boost. 34" scale length. I just paid $44.00 for a 1-piece Basswood body blank (including shipping) (that's an oblong block of wood for those that don't know)- This has Mahogany and Spalted Maple! I don't have a clue how Ibanez can make offers like this. I can see Fender offering that with about $20.00 worth of Basswood and Maple with a little paint on it for theirs but man...Ibanez is just dumbfounding me with their stuff.

spacey You know I like Fender myolpal but you got me curious since there are instruments like Ibanez doing stuff like below that is just unbelievable....was it the short scale being the main factor? I'm not sure whether you're familiar with this, but a "bass VI" is not quite the same thing as a "6 string bass". The VI is strung like a guitar one octave lower with narrow string spacing and lower string tension like a guitar, not the higher tension like a bass (even a short scale one). So it's something like a hybrid instrument - as close to a baritone guitar as it is a bass, but not really either. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fender_Bass_VI Ibanez did come out with a version called the SRC6 recently and Schecter makes one as well. Some notable uses are Jack Bruce on the first Cream album, Glen Campbell's Wichita Lineman and Robert Smith with The Cure.

You know Drew....I did know about that (hybrid) from the Danelectro one but overlooked that aspect when I posted and I'm not familiar with the specifics of the instrument- measures and such. Mainly me posting about freaking out on what Ibanez is and has been doing. I've seen folks around here scarfing up cheap guitars and none have been Ibanez and I don't see anybody making the offers that are just unreal like theirs. Don't mean to offend anybody and it's their money but hard to explain how Ibanez is doing what they're doing.

Ibanez definitely has some nice stuff. I don't usually go for them because they tend to have those skinny necks, but this is their bass VI offering: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SRC6WNF If it was a bit cheaper for the sort of specialized instrument that it is... The Squier yorolpal got is really appealing though.

It is appealing. There are many players very happy with it but even the Pawn Shop Bass VI is a hundred dollars more than the Ibanez SRC6 and it has a 5 piece Jatoba/Bubinga neck and Mahogany body. I guess value to one goes hand in hand with neck profile. Dealing with woods just has me messed up...I wish I could buy wood from Ibanez.

Welp...I've wanted one of these things since back in the sixties but could never justify buying one. Now, though, many of my own tunes require odd, esoteric instrumentation and this new Indonesian Squire is tres affordable. Plus...I just got a substantial tax refund. I couldn't resist. I'll keep ya posted.

They are the bomb Ol Pal. When I think 6 string bass, I never think sub-sonic.
