Did Gibson even *try* to spin it off?

Hard to believe there isn't someone who thinks it's worth keeping going...

    It's even harder to believe they would shut it down without trying to sell it. Shutting down a going concern is a last resort. Better to get a few cents on the dollar than nothing.

    I believe a lot went on behind the scenes that we are unaware of.  Probably there is a gag order in place, preventing Cakewalk employees from saying much more.

    Well, I've been reading a lot of passionate posts this last week.
    It's a very convoluted and complicated story, this Cakewalk demise.
    I'm also amazed that such amazing software could come to such an end.
     
    The bottom line in all businesses is money . . . if it wasn't profitable in an ever changing DAW landscape, it's just a matter of time. Could another worldwide corporation other than Gibson made it work ? Hard to say.
    Maybe that's the problem . . . perhaps it should have been driven by a smaller business owner who wouldn't shed it so easily, because the profit numbers didn't need to be as massive.
     
    I've been forced to look at Cubase this week, and it seems to me that Cakewalk and Cubase have been hitting each other over the head for a very long time. The features are remarkably similar, so maybe Gibson didn't have the stomach for that kind of competition.
