Didn't know the forum was down...
    but I did some pickin'.

Was going to record a new idea but it seems
like most of time when I have to look for drum parts I
get bored and go do something.
Drums have to be the most boring thing in the world to me.
Hearing them or rather feeling them behind my playing is
about all I want to do with them.

I wished there was a software drummer I could tell what I want...now that would work.
Need a robot drummer with ears.

BIAB does a passable job at that, particularly if you use it mainly for inspiration.  Then, you can hire a drummer for he real stuff...

No, I didn't Mark.  I'm currently between projects, which is an odd place to be.  But I've got a piano recital coming up in 3 weeks, so I'm trying to finish my piece.  And working on the guitar for fun.

Oh, and did I tell you I played the drums live last week? And didn't screw up too badly or throw the sticks or anything? :)

But, I'm currently listening to your latest...it's obvious you used your time wisely. :)

I recorded a remake of In Dreams by Roy Orbison. I was going to post it today (April 23rd.) because it's Roy's birthday, but I'm not finished with it yet.

Musically it's excellent, and the most challenging song I've attempted to date. It's mostly midi and I'm not good at making midi sound real so I'm running in to a few problems with the strings. Vocally ... it's a little rough. Hey, it's a Roy Orbison song, it's not easy to sing. :) I had to drop it a half step.

I'll try to get it done in a few days and post it. It may end up being an instrumental. ;)

As a matter of fact, yes... did a little guitar noodling and a little writing.  Not bad, considering the schedule I keep during Holy Week.

Bub, what program are you using for strings?

    Hi Janet,

I'm using the new strings synth that comes with X1. Not at my DAW right now, I think it's called SI? There's a drum, bass, electric piano, and string synth.

It sounds pretty good, but I'm having trouble editing some note slides. I know it can be done via midi controllers but I'm having some trouble making it sound realistic.

Oh, OK.  I've not used SI and I can't get note slides to work with any program I've got.  I'm sure someone can help.

Cool tune Mark. I've heard you play fast before but that was full throttle shred at times and I so loved that warm tone. I think my favorite from you to date. I was finishing working on the tune I have posted there now. I'm going to call it final but it's a bit experimental to be honest. I'm just learning to work with my sub. I may have overdone the lows...

@Spacey, oh yeah the forum was down and it was horrible.

@Janet.  That's awesome you playing drums live already.  Did you get any use out of Mike Johnston's stuff on youtube?

@Bub.  I'm a huge Roy Orbison fan.  Looking forward to hearing your song.

@Mike.  Sounds like a busy time for sure.

@Russell.  I guess they keep you busy this time of year.

@Grant.  Thanks for the compliment.  I hear you about working with subs.  It took me a while to get used to mine, but I think it makes a big difference once you get used to it.

No, I haven't watched Mike's stuff yet.  I should.  I just keep practicing and bugging other drummers for tips.

So, you're back at it again, I assume.  We'll have to have that 'drum-off' sometime.  ;)

I did.  I've needed some background vox on one song, but way too low to sing properly.  Every time I tried, it sounded bad.  Other instruments didn't sound right, so I asked my teacher.
She suggested I smoke a cigar before warming up, and luckily today was nice enough to sit outside for a half hour and enjoy it.
Then I managed to pull it off, singing a low F# (that's the 2nd-fret low string on a guitar, for the guitarists).  Productive day.

All that work for 20 seconds in the background of a song... lol

And yet another reason I don't like vocals...just takes so long!

But, what should I smoke to be able to sing higher?  I can handle the low notes already.  lol

I did. Opened a few projects, added some stuff, deleted some stuff, thought about my latest project I'm going to get Janet to play on (hint hint) worked on that a little bit. Then closed it all and checked if the forums were up yet.
