I've always loved this song. I like everything about this except the vocal. It sounds like you're reading the lyrics instead of singing them. IOW, it lacks conviction. The voice is nice sounding, but could use a little soul.

Thanks Lynn. I appreciate the comment. Jim didn't know the song. This one was not a big radio hit IIRC. That was a long time ago.

"PS. I'll try not to be such a stranger in there here parts. " Promises promises... This sounds good on the buds, if I can make mix comments, and I don't really think I can? It seems like the vox need to be a bit more present. I can hear some pitch issues in some places, which may be why you didn't push them. The guitar, bass and everything else sounds pretty good! We are all spirits in the material world...

I like it but agree the vocal is lacking a little 'oomph' (Norfolk UK technical term) which is understandable if the singer doesn't really know the song. I also think there's an overall reverb going on that sounds a little too much to me but that could just be me. I'm no expert, not even close in fact.... Good job on a song from a great band though. I don't visit these parts often enough either, I'm too busy squabbling upstairs most of the time.

Twisted6s - Thanks for checking it out. BOTR19 - I'm here now! lol! Thanks for listening. Rimshot - It took me a few days before I could cosistantly pull that bass line off. This has to be the most syncopated song I've ever done. Well, except for this Scrabin bit I did in college with the jazz band playing bass. FBB - We use oomph also. We also use balls, life and probably a few others but I think that a topic for the Coffee House. I love the police as well. What a great trio of musicianship! I'm on the fence about the reverb though. The original seems like it has a lot as well. A better vox would be nice. Any takers? Jim did a pretty good job for not knowing the song. I'll probably go back and fix the pitch issues mentioned. Thanks again everyone!

The vox could come up a tad. It almost sounds like it might be a step low for your voice. I find I usually sound better if I sing a little higher than I feel like a should. Nice powerful mix. Well done. Daryl

Thanks for commenting Daryl. The vox is definitly better than what I would sing. Maybe I'll find another to sing it.

The bass is almost there, but a few accent notes on the main bass line are missing enough to dampen the groove, Too much mids on my system. Strings sound pretty good...but that snare sounds it needs a tuning STAT!

I love this and the original ... but have my gripes with both. The hook, as per the original, repeats with little variance, as if, with casual conviction (like a broken record) ... and yet the instruments are dutifully pompous and filled with extraordinary psychedelia (if that makes any sense). So, like the original, I crave more meaning and variance.

this is certainly a tough one to call , this tune has lot of things going for & yet it needs a little bit of tlc in a few places ... as a non singer I am always hesitant to comment on vocals, if I sang half as good I wouldn't be a non singer any more maybe a vocal redo ? now that time has passed ....and a few listens w feedback have occurred yes I back off on the room verb.... also , i felt the tune sounded overly compressed ..meaning I didn't care for the compression setting .. the playing is pretty much there ....also it is a fantastic tune to cover don't give up this is how we learn all the best Kenny

Thanks for the comments guys. I appreciate the feedback. I can back off the verb some when I get back to it. Agreed, repetitive but that's rock and roll. Imagine how it must be for Sting to sing and play it at the same time. Thanks again!

I love this song, and it was a big hit here. It does indeed sound like the vocalist does not know the song. I would suggest more practice is needed. As his voice is nothing like Sting's, I would suggest rethinking the nature of the vocals. What comes to mind is something like "Mad World". The original by TFF was more intense, but the version that really made it famous was by Gary Jules way more laid back: http://www.iviewtube.com/...rs-for-fears-mad-world (original) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4N3N1MlvVc4 (Gary Jules) Maybe consider slowing it down a bit. Also there seems to be some timing issues a lot of the time. This may also be solved with both slowing it down and ... well... practice. Cheers Shad

How do you cover Sting? I wouldn't attempt it but your singer did a pretty good job. A few pitch problems but over all pretty good. This is one of those tunes that it takes b**** to do. You did a good job GP.

Music sounds about right, but I'm not really convinced by the vocals to be honest with you. It's always gonna be difficult when covering someone so vocally distinctive - never going to sound the same, and maybe not even the intention here, but it didn't feel like he (you ?) was really convinced himself of the delivery in places, most notably the chorus.

Cool, I wasn't expecting a Police cover. I like, yea the vocal is a little quiet but I'd bring the whole instrumental section down a notch, it's not that the vocal is too quiet it's the instruments are too loud. I'd also back the verb off slighty, it's a bit fake sounding. But I like and a good job. Neb
