Tips of the day in SONAR X1!

Instead of "OPEN & CLOSE" VST-Instruments all day long, you can now organize and lock them to to different Screensets-Views.

Example: If you have 2 monitors you can have example the GUI of KONTAKT 4 open on the second monitor locked to "ScreensSet 2"-View. Default key ="2"
You can have example the GUI of Dimension Pro open on the second monitor locked to "ScreensSet 3"-View. Default key ="3"...and so on...

SONAR has always had powerful drag and drop capabilities but now SONAR X1 has taken this a step further. You can drag and drop just about anything in SONAR X1 including Track Templates and projects.

When you are ready to record a vocal track you can simply drag and drop a template from the Browser to an empty area of the track view. The template will automatically load and create the proper number of tracks, busses and patch all the effects for you. This is a real time saver.

You can create your own Track Templates for future use. All you have to do is select the tracks you want and then right click on them and select “Save as Track Template”. Now all the selected tracks, effects and busses will be saved as one single preset.

Don’t forget that Track Templates can also include soft synths, audio tracks and MIDI tracks. SONAR X1 comes with many Track Templates to get you up and running quickly. If you are upgrading to SONAR X1 all of your existing track templates will migrate to SONAR X1 and you can drag and drop them into new and existing projects!

As an added bonus you can drag existing projects into other projects. This is extremely useful if you are arranging an album, working on audio for video or comping projects together for remixes and mash ups.

The Edit Filter allows you to work with the data you want and none of the data that you don’t. For example, you might have multiple automation envelopes on a track. You can use the edit filter to select which of the automation envelopes you would like to edit.

In this example we will choose volume. The rest of the track data including the audio data is left unaffected. You can only edit the volume envelopes.

You can also use the Edit Filter to switch to the in-line piano roll view.

Here’s a power user shortcut: Hold down the shift key while you click on a data type (automation envelope, clip data etc) and you will automatically switch to editing that data type.

Hey I don't know if anyone else will find this useful, but this is probably the best place to post my find.
Okay, so sometimes I will use Sonar for a bit, close it, and go to run it again, only to find that any attempt at doing so will produce no effect. This only started happening after the X1 update. Oh and I have Windows 7 64 bit, which is relevant.
Well I experimented around and eventually opened up the task manager, and lo and behold, SONARPDR.exe was running the whole time for whatever reason. I ended the process and it all worked fine. No more restarting!

I don't know who needs this info, but I hope I helped someone out of a hole here.

Oh and nice thread, Freddie! So useful.

Anybody know if this still works. Say with Sonar Professional? I'm desperate to try and get my Dreamstation DX involved somehow.

Dreamstation should run fine in 32bit SONAR which can be installed on 64bit Windows by running the installers manually. It might also work in 64bit SONAR if wrapped with http://xlutop.com/buzz/zip/dxshell_v1.0.4b.zip

Thanks Scook. Yeh I've been trying both options unsuccessfully I'm afraid. Scan just won't recognise Dreamstation under any circumstances. As the thread was a bit ancient, I thought I'd see if it was still an option.

How was the plug-in installed? The 32bit VST scanner would not be involved when running 32bit SONAR. Dreamstation is a 32bit DirectX plug-in which would use regsvr32 during the installation process to create the registry entry used by SONAR to find the plug-in.

Well in my ignorance all i did was re-visit my account; re-download Sonar snd then chose 32bit instead of 64. Sounds to me (with your mention of regsvr32), that there's bit more to it. Any ideas how i activate or locate said item?
thanks Scook

Is SONAR Professional the only version on the PC? If so, Dreamstation was dropped from the new SONAR. Perform an advanced install of another version to get the plug-in on the PC. The install process should handle the plug-in registration automatically.

Sorry. I haven't been very forthcoming with the details. My version of Dreamstation came with MC5 a while back. I've now upgraded to windows 7 on a new 64 bit computer. Everything (dim pro rapture, tts-1, etc etc), has transposed beautifully except Dreamstation. So frustrating. I was just getting the hang of this lovely little synth

The new SONAR does not include Dreamstation, so you will have to install it from MC5, if you have not already done so. Are you saying you have installed MC5 and 32bit SONAR and Dreamstation is not available?

That's it yes. Though you've got me thinking. My MC5 installation didn't go entirely smoothly. I did it from a cd copied from my old computer. Maybe i should re-install MC5 direct from Cakewalk to make sure i've got a definitive version of Dreamstation.

Sorted!!  You got me thinking a bit more laterally, and getting back to basics. In fact for Dreamstation i had to go right back to my original MC2 installation cd. Still haven't managed to get 64 bit Sonar to recognise it, but i'm not too bothered about that. I've got a structure i can work with for those projects affected. Any future usage i can bounce to wav files and transfer.

Have you tried to wrap it using the dxshell app Scook linked to above? (If that doesn't work you may be out of luck.)

Yes, the only way a 32bit DirectX plug-in will ever load into 64bit SONAR is using a DX-to-VST wrapper. Then BitBridge can load the plug-in. Now that the plug-in is finally installed and recognized in a 32bit host, the wrapper has a chance of working.
