Diet update - 16 August 2012

As of today I have lost a total of 16.5lbs.

I started at 237.5 and I Am 221 today.

The reasonable goal is 220 by the time Mooch's wedding rolls around (7 days away..... YIKES!!!!).

For the record I Am 6'1" tall. Seven years ago today I consistently weighed 210. That was down from 250.

I hope I do not discover pizza again.

      Thats great news Bapu. Congrats!
I kind of agreed to do weight watchers with my wife and I went from 218 to 205 in a little over a month. My target weight should be around 175. I have set a goal to be there in 6 months.

I am the cook around the house and I fattened us both up unknowingly. We loved to eat pasta  bread , potatoes and other high carb foods. My helpings were double what they should have been. Now instead of ice cream I eat non fat yogurt with fresh fruit. Plenty of fruits and veggies. Front loading proteins which is easy for me because I love fish. The thing that surprised me is that I can still eat  the things I like just less of it.I am full after a meal and still losing weight.

You can still eat pizza....just one slice.

    Thanks for the encouragement everyone.

If Mooch would encourage me like this about my "singing" I'd have more tunes to shamelessly plug here.

All I have right now is THIS ONE. Anyone heard it?

For the record, I lost 23.5 pounds then, recently, received a package from Bapu and am now 13.5 pounds heavier again (mostly due to life stress and not getting enough exercise thanks to the warm weather and alergies during June & most of July).

    Thanks Ed.

    Re:Diet update - 1 August 2012 2012/08/02 09:02:25 (permalink)
Good luck Ed! Quick diet plan for ya...2/3 healthy, the other 1/3 not...but it's good for losing weight fast!

    1. Sex: 3 times a week or more. It really makes a difference in both your mental state and your physical state. If you're a screamer it will make a difference in the STATE you live in and may cause problems with neighbors. LOL!

    2. Cardio: This is the most important other than your actual diet. Pounds come off so much faster. A treadmill is great if you can do at least one hour per day. (start with 20 minutes or until you get a little dizzy and work your way up) I hate it because it's boring, however, I decided to choose a series on TV that is an hour long. So I do my mill while I watch True Blood and the hour goes by so fast, it's like I didn't even do anything. I run on the treadmill for 30 minutes and walk to cool down the other 30. Just remember, with any cardio, it takes 20 minutes to get to where the fat is stored. So if you did cardio for 30 minutes, you only burned fat for 10 minutes. I also do light weight training, but we don't need to go there...we just need you to fit in that monkey suit! :)

    3. Cigs: Yeah, our worst enemy....however, don't stop smoking if you are trying to lose weight. One thing or the other. Smoking actually speeds up metab. If you stopped smoking right now you'd still gain weight even if you were dieting. This wears off, but initially, your body has to change and get used to not having that stuff in it for a while. So for now, if you are thinking of stopping, don't do it until after the wedding or when you are used to this diet thing to where you're starting to feel comfortable.

Definitely consider quitting at some point if you do smoke. One thing that will change is...if you get colds or are sick often, you decrease that by half or more. Each time you exhale smoke through your nose, it removes the protection you get from your Cilia in your nasal passage making it easier for things to pass through your nose and make you sick. That ugly nose hair has a purpose! (we still need to trim that, guys...it gets gross when you don't and no one needs THAT much protection LOL!)

I could go on and on with this...but I'll spare you. I went to school for this stuff...so I know a little about it. I just never amounted to anything and settled for being a musician....go figure.

My dad has been a diabetic for over 30 years. He's been on Metformin and finally had to go on insulin. It scared him pretty bad to where he came to me and said "help me beat this". So I had to crack the whip on him...but I came up with an awesoem diet for him that has helped so much, he's using the least amount of insulin he can use, his sugar is between 80-115 where we want it, his weight went from 192 lbs to 162 lbs and at 77 years old, he feels like a kid again. I also took him off his cholesterol meds. That stuff should be illegal unless you have a body that manufactures mass amounts of cholesterol. All the "Statin's" are evil...and anything that forces you to have liver or kidney tests every 3 months are evil. They only improve cholesterol counts by 1% to 2% anyway. I removed the cholesterol foods my dad was eating and his Dr says "wow, your cholesterol numbers are incredible" and dad said "yeah and I've been off that crap you put me on for 2 months now".

So everything with my dad basically took about 2 months to get a handle on. His cardio is what makes all the difference though...and without it, the results we got would have taken 4 to 5 months or more. He walks 10-14 miles per night at his job. I put one of those stepper machines on him and on any given night, he's doing 10-14 miles of walking religiously. This can really help when dieting...so make sure you keep some sort of cardio in mind. That 10 pounds should be easy for you without moob surgery! And...if you really do this right, the moob surgery sort of becomes automatic and surgically removes itself. :)

Anyway....good luck with everything brother! I hope you meet all your goals. :)

I was once told that the quickest way to lose 10lbs of unsightly fat was to cut your head off.

I didn't try it, so I dunno if it works, but might be worth bearing in mind if all else fails ? ;)

    Well done Ed.

Keep it going and get into realistic habits that mean you don't put it back.

30 minutes walk a day, for example, have transformed my life.  I'm now 42 miles away from home...

Good job! Losing weight isn't easy. Especially at your age! ;-)

I lost 25 lbs. about 5 years ago and it was fairly hard. But now I've gained about 5 of of it back and just being a few years older it's harder to shed those pounds now.
