Digital Performer VSTs not detected by Sonar
I have installed a trial copy of Digital Performer 9.5, which is fully functional for 30 days. I added my existing VST filepaths and DP picked up most of these VSTs after a re-scan. Then I added DP's VST filepath to Sonar's Plugin Manager, but Sonar picked up none of DP's plugins. There were not even any error messages or anything to indicate that it had even scanned the folder. Strange!

I though most DAWs lock their plug-ins, Cakewalk was one of few companies that made most of its plug-ins available for other DAWs. To see if the plug-ins are read by the scanner, create a log by holding the SHIFT key while clicking Scan or Reset buttons.

OK, I pressed the Shift key and re-scanned the plugins. Where is the log?

Oddly, I mentioned in another post that Sonar Home Studio 7 XL has a proprietary plugin from Studio Devil (VGA+) that does not work in any other version of Sonar. Yet it functions perfectly in Mixcraft 8.

There should be a toast message with the log path displayed. The path given in the message is %APPDATA%\Cakewalk\Logs\VstScan.log

There was no message. Also, no such file anywhere on the C-drive.

Then you did not perform the action correctly or the scanner is old and does not have the logging option. Not sure when it was added in 2015. FWIW, I run all scans from Preferences.

OK, now I've tried scanning from Preferences instead of from Plugin Manager. This time it worked and generated a log file. It displays all the MOTU DLLs as "Not a VST plugin".

Cakewalk has recommended for some time (at least as long as the X-Series has been around) that scans should be run from Preferences. Use the plug-in manager for exclude list, preset and plug-in layout management.

As the plug-in scan log revealed, the plug-ins that come with DP are not VST, but their own proprietary MAS format. This can be easily seen by going (in DP) to Edit/Preferences, then clicking on the Audio Plug-ins screen in the General section. It shows the type of plug-in in the right-hand column. It will also show, for VST plug-ins, which ones passed, failed, and were skipped during the plug-in scanning.

Thanks. I didn't realise that. I had read somewhere that DP (Windows version) uses VST and assumed that it was the only compatible format.
