Dimension LE and Garritan Pocket Orchestra

I have just upgraded to Sonar Studio from Sonar LE, and all is working well.

I have noticed though in the Virtual Instruments section on this website that the Garritan Pocket Orchestra is included in Dimension LE. I have gone through all the presets and folders in Dimension LE but I can't find in anywhere.

If if has any bearing on the answer, I have successfully downloaded the Sonar 8.3 update.

Thanks for reading.

you might be confusing it with Dimension pro which does have the pocket version.

you said you have "studio" which doesn't come with Dimension pro, the PE version comes with the full DP.

    Hi Fog

If you go to the Instruments and Effects section on this website it lists the Dimension LE and the GPO together. I was wondering where it is. I've tried everywhere.

I just had a quick look.. on my version it is listed.. ya know in the LE browser.. you have the numbers.. it's under 24.

BUT I use v7 of sonar also.. so it might have been included in that, but not 8 because it's a 3rd party sound pack

errm if you have a quick look in your programs / multi samples folder for DP LE see if it's listed there.

tricky for me to say , I mean I combined the folders, so all my LE stuff points to the pro content as I wanted to save 100mb or whatever it was.

in the browser window that you get.. try f5'ing it to refresh it.. if it doesn't come up.. then it might not have been included this time around..

That's odd, unless there's a difference between Producer and Studio editions in this respect. I have producer and for me G Pocket Orchestra is the final folder that shows in my DimLE Browser window.

    Good luck,

The virtual instruments section describes that one as a special version for download ie to buy - and not the one in the package.

But I can't confirm if you should have it. Just saying about that one.

Ron, things change from version to version though.. and it's a 3rd party thing also e.g. cake license it from there. so maybe the content changes over time also.

So, you mean Sonar 8 doesn't have Garritan Pocket Orchestra in Dimension LE? Wow! If not you can buy Dimension Pro at a special price at Guitar Center dot com for Sonar users! Dimension Pro do have Garritan Pocket Orchestra! Unbelievable! When I had Sonar Home Studio 6 XL, Dimension LE that came with it had Garritan Pocket Orchestra.

I can't say Ron as I run 7PE also as well as 8 PE.. and after installing 8PE the content for other custom sample packs I have made, were still there.

notice I did say "maybe" , someone running 8 SE /PE ONLY would have the definitive answer.. or one of the bakers.

I was only giving pointers to what / where the files should be. As much as I like helping people, I'm not gonna un install a load of things to test an idea.

my point is GPO is by Garritan and is licensed by cake, that's all really.

When marimba rhythms start to play
Is it in studio 8, I can't say?
There's only one real way to know for sure
Look for folder, folder twenty four

Like a flower bending in the breeze
I'm on my knees, tell me please
Did it come with Dimension Le?
Say to me, set me free

Other orchestras may be part of Sonar
Dear, but my ears will hear only you
Only you have that harmonic mystique
When I conduct, I go weak

I can hear the sounds of violins
    But Is it Pocket Garritans?
Which version did it come in?
It's so smooth, sway me now

    Blow me, String me
    Thrill me, Bang me
    Bend me, Tease me
    You can play my symphony

Other orchestras may be part of Sonar
Dear, but my ears will hear only you
Only you have that harmonic mystique

    Thanks for all your replies.

This is how far I've got so far.

If click on the small page icon directly to the left of the of the bar which has the default message 'Empty Program', then click 'Load Program', then click 'Dimension LE', then click 'Multisamples', there is a folder called 'Garritan Pocket Orchestra'.

There are several other folders in there and they are all numbered, for example, no.99 is the Vintage Sound Library. This one opens, and loads no problem.

However, the GPO hasn't got a number and when I click on it it opens several other folders, brass, harps, solo strings etc. If I click on any of these folders I get more specific folders. For example, the brass folder open, French Horn Solo Samples and several others. Once I get this far and open these specific folders, they are empty! There's no samples, nothing.

The 'Files of Type' bar at the bottom shows 'Programs [*.prog]'. If I change the Files of Type to 'All files [*.*]. I then get lots of wav files. In the French Horn Solo Section folder the wav are named like this, 'fha#2'. If you click on these they don't load into Dimension LE.

Apologies for being so pedantic with this message, but I thought it might help if I spell it out step by step.

Many thanks if you can help.

well it's included then. I mean the samples are there.. the programs are elsewhere.. it depends if your running vista or xp to as to where.

in the DP LE you bring up the browser where the patches are.. and it's not listed at all there at all? and other categories are / load up? try pressing f5 and it should refresh the patch list..

it's odd that the programs aren't showing for it.

    Thanks Fog.

I'm on XP. And I'm clicking on F5 on everything and nothing is changing!

The browser you mention, does that come up when you click the 'Empty Program' bar? If so, the Vintage Sound Library isn't there either, but I find it as above.

Yes the wav samples are there.

yep that empty bar comes up initially .. I mean it doesn't load up a default patch and you'll get another windows up.. in that should be the list.. if it's totally empty, it would point to 1 of 2 things.. either the programs for aren't there or it's not finding them.

    have a look at

    C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Dxi\Dimension LE

see if there is a "program" folder off that

with that folder you should have numbered folders inc. the GPO one.. hopefully.. there is a file called programs.lst... rename that to zprograms.lst or something.. start sonar, insert DP LE.. go into the browser again.. try f5...

if you have a look in that program folder I just mentioned you should see a new programs.lst file also.

other than that, try running the disk again BUT when it asks you the install there is a drop down box. type change it from full.. to custom or soft syths and see if DP LE is mentioned on that list , on my version DP LE didn't show, maybe because the pack includes the full DP.

other than that I'd contact support I mean thats part of the cost of what we are paying for.

    Hi-

What are your Contents and Multisamples folder values in the Windows Registry set to? The key is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Dimension LE

I've done what you suggested in your earlier email about changing the name of the file called 'programs.lst'. Then I went to the program browser and clicked F5.

GPO then popped up on the list. I tried to open one of the samples and I get this message:

'Error uncompressing program data - Program load failed.'

    Any other suggestions?

    Susan

I don't know where to find the values on the Windows Registry, or what they are! Any chance of a pointer? Thanks for taking the time to help.

If it helps I moved the GPO folder from the Multisamples folder to the Programs folder. And also when I click on some of the folders in the GPO the file have .sfz at the end of the file name. Is this significant? I must warn you I'm not very good on the computer side of this, as is obviously apparent!!

This is basically moot since you're moved the Multisamples folder (which I wouldn't have recommended) but:

Click Start > Run and type 'regedit' (no quotes) in the "Open" box. You'll see the Windows Registry window, and it will look similar to Windows Explorer. Don't change anything; you're just looking! To be safe, you can make a backup of it by clicking File > Export > All.

Then navigate to the key I posted by opening the branches (click on the '+' signs):
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
      SOFTWARE
        Cakewalk Music Software
           Dimension LE
The window on the right will show you where SONAR expects to fine your Contents and Multisamples folders.

But frankly if I were you I'd just reinstall it at this point!

ok so you got all the programs up right? i mean other things play fine , like synths or whatever?

when you say you "moved".. did you move or just copy the multisamples in that gpo folder over?

now the gpo folder that was in multi samples.. (that contains the wav's and sfz files) has to be in the place. so shift it back IF thats the only folder you moved and the other sounds besides GPO are playing fine..

the wav's are the samples.. the sfz.. are the mappings.. e.g.. rhodesc1... mapped to c1 and up to... rhodesc2.. mapped to c2 etc

there should only be a few "prog" files listed in program folder for DP LE...

there should be a few SFZ.. and a fair few wav's OFF your multi samples folder, BUT they need to be in an exact location to work or else when DP loads up the "prog" it can't find them..

so off multisamples you should have "Garritan Pocket Orchestra" folder... (containing the sfz's / wavs + sub folders like brass etc)
off programs you'll have "24 - Garritan Pocket Orchestra" (ONLY containing sub folders + prog files)

    Thanks for all your help.

It looks like I'm missing the GPO Programs folder. There's nothing in there with number 24 or GPO, but all the samples are in the Multisamples folder.

Any ideas where it might be? I had a check around all of the folders and can't find 24 - GPO.

By the way I have put the GPO folder back as it was in the Multisamples folder.

I've checked out the Windows Registry and all appears to be in there apart from 24 GPO.

I think you're right I may have to reinstall. There must be somewhere which has a 'uninstall' button? Also, will I need to re-register? Will the serial and registration numbers I have work on the reinstalled Sonar 8? And, lastly, is there anything I have to do during the reinstallation for my problem not to happen again?

Thank you so much for your help.

nah there won't be.. there will be a reference to 2 things.. 1 "multi samples" and 2 "programs" as anything off them specific entries would be listed. Anything off both folders that has progs + samples will be used.

reinstall is probably your best route if you can't either of the folders.

I've just gone through this same issue. I purchased Studio 8 thinking that Pocket Orchestra was included with Dimension LE, but it's not - at least not on Studio 8.

I think this is a huge cheat, and also misleading advertising on the part of Cakewalk, since they SAY that pocket Orchestra DOES come with Dimension LE.
