Dimension Pro...... New software, new PC, same issue.

Now I've bought 8.5 producer and I'm running it very successfully in Windows 7 (64), I remember a problem I had with DP and Sonar 6 producer 32 bit.............

Everything is fine if I record in 16/44, but as soon as I use 24/96, the pitch bend just crackles. Everything else is fine, it's just pitch bend, and only in DP.

This exactly what used to happen before, so it doesnt seem to be system related. Any ideas, please?

2.66ghz dual core, 4mb ram, windows 7 64, Sonar 8.5.3 producer.

Thank you.

You've had this same problem in SONAR 6 Producer and SONAR 8.5 Producer? That sucks.

What's your CPU usage when you hear the crackling? Do you have the same problem if you use the modulation wheel? Do you hear the crackling on all the DimPro sounds or just particular ones?

It sounds like an ASIO buffer issue, but you could just be asking too much from your CPU.

That is an old issue.  I think there is a fix for it if you read through past posts or search.

Is it just DimPro under SONAR Producer? I have SONAR HS 6.2 and DimPro, and I don't think I've ever heard this.

Then again, I don't record at 24/96; 24/48 is sufficient for me.

Ah...it appears to be an issue where Dimension Pro and Rapture don't play well at 24/96 in general.

Ah, PlanetEarth...... You are very kind to go to such trouble for me. Thank you.

I shall answer the questions in case someone else needs the same information, but I understand that you are saying that it's a 96 specific issue.
The CPU useage is minimal, around 15%. Only the pitch bend causes this problem, only in DP, and across all dp instruments. Mod wheel is not affected.
The only common factor is the keyboard, which is an M audio Oxygen v2.

Again, thank you for your help.

Indeed, I wish I was able to help you with this, but it appears it's a problem with the way Dimension Pro (and Rapture) resample their internal sounds for 24/96.

As AT pointed out, there may be a fix for it if you search the threads. I did a search for "Dimension Pro pitch bend" and found these two related threads:

    http://forum.cakewalk.com...mension+pro+pitch+bend

    and

    http://forum.cakewalk.com...mension+pro+pitch+bend

You might want to try recording at 24/48 or 24/88.2 (if your card supports it), to see if the problem still occurs. Otherwise, you'll have to console yourself with the knowledge that you've discovered a bug that's existed for a few years!

    UPDATE!!! THIS JUST IN...

I don't browse the Cakewalk Instruments forum much (DimPro is pretty much the only Cakewalk instrument I have that I care about, honestly), but I just saw this at the top of the forum: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=1738313 . Apparently, it's been there for quite a while, and it says it's for people having problems with DimPro at higher sampling rates. You might want to give it a try.

Hope it helps, and I apologize for not noticing it earlier.

    Ha! Amazing. Many thanks.

I'll try this out later. I wonder why it's not recommended for lower rate usage?

I don't know. I imagine they had to either "break" something else to get this to work, or it requires more CPU usage to do what it needs to do and those who don't need it really won't benefit.

The link offers a way to comment on it to the developers, so you might want to ask them.
