Dimension Pro Songs

Hi Guys,
I have been learning to use Dimension Pro over the past week. Man! I relly love this synth. I suceeded in re-mixing three of my songs on SoundClik. So if you want to hear what they sound like, Just hit my SoundClick link below and listen to the first three songs on my page; stop the autoplay, and listen in Hi-Fi for best effect.

I would appreciate any suggestions or constructive criticism on these 3 songs.

Eaze up on that verb. Especially on the piano. Kblue had the vocals a tad to far back in the mix.

The timing seems forced, not laid back. And the overall orchesration is just a tad to GM. Your getting there A little more work and you'll sound like an east Texas bar band.

Yea, I thought the Katrina vox were mixed too far in the back, esp. at the beginning. Also, the high end was rolled off - I couldn't tell if this was part of low-fi motiff (it has an old-timey sound as well as feel). The other songs were brighter. Maybe this is part of the less reverb suggested above.

Also, all your vox seemed a bit rolled off or uncaptured. I understand that country has more "manly" voices, but they don't have to be dull. Maybe a brighter mic for your voice, tho on Baby when you belt it out there seems to be enough high-end? Maybe it is simply you are singing too close to the mic and getting a proximemity boost?

I really liked the songs, tho. Kick a. Had me nodding along, esp. Katrina and the honkey tonk piano.

    Thanks AT,
I think what happened on KATRINA, I tried to use the new D-Pro trax with the older vox, and something slipped out of timing. I put the older version back up, until I can re-mix.

Have to go back to work Monday night, so that will slow me down a bit, but I will keep on tryin' Just like the guy In KATRINA.

Maybe it is time for me to invest in a good old Shure Mic.

First impressions were the same as the other two commented. The percussion sounds very GM, would be worth finding some sampled drum kits to lay as a backing, that in itself would be a big step forward. It's worth spending some time getting the balance right on the backing track because at the moment it's not working. Group all the drums together & compress & I'd do the same with your sounds also.

Vocals..sound very out of place on all the tracks. Again, that comes down to the backing not being up to scratch & not using the right mic. Go grab a cheap AKG mic with a pop shield & you'll notice a huge difference. It all sounds a little smothered at the moment. Not sure what kind of setup you have but, even a modest computer only setup you can get excellent results with a little persistence. A bit of compression on the vocals will help you no end to really finish the mix & make everything gel.

A little polish, timing tweaks here and there, A looser feel and these won't take nashville by storm but they will represent your particular style and feel much better And well this is what it's all about right ?
We all start out about the same place. It takes a dogged persistance to hone the craft. It's the work we put into it that's the fun for me.

    Clare, and Larry
The Drums I'm using are the Dry kits that come with Dimension Pro. I just have a DAW home studio, Dell PC, Voice-Prism-Plus, 12 Channel Mixer, and I'm using Nady, and Sony Balanced Mics. I use the VPP for the vocal choirs.

All my tracks sound Great before mixing, it's tryin to get them mixed down correctly that is challenging. I'm creating my instruments individually Bass, Piano, Guitar, etc. I bounce to track each one separately from Midi through D-Pro. Once I get all my instruments bounced, I attempt to Bounce all the Audio Tracks into One Final Instruments track, But I can't get the volumes to stay at the correct levels, so I wind up having to set the individual audio levels, and record the Final Instruments Track manually, even though I told the Bounce to "Use What You Hear".

Next I record my Lead Vocal, Bu Vocals and mix these three tracks to the Final Export track.

Anyway, thanks for the feed back, I'll keep on keeping on, learning every step of the way.

You were right about the mic. I switched over to my Sony T-V610 after a minor repair to the plug inlet, and it made a big difference in the sound. I'm gonna pick me up some SM58s Shures next week for shure.

I'll Put up the song I'm working on now when it is finished, so you can hear the difference.

Also, With Dim-Pro, I found out it is easier to put in one instance of DPro per instrument and bounce 'em all at once into one final Audio Instruments track. I wasn't doing that because I didn't think I had enough PC horsepower, but so far no problems. I used 7 instances on this one and they bounced fine. That included 2 extra drum trax for Hits and a Tamb.

I'm inputing my vocals tonight and since I have to work Monday night, it may be next week before I can finish it.

I've only had D-Pro about a week so I'm getting there now.

Thanks for all the help, See you soon.

    Well,
Just ordered my Shure SM58s; it should be here by Friday. I will wait for it to arrive before finishing the song, and probably go back and re-record the other three. Now that I've learned how to take advantage of Dim-Pro. This is by far the absolute best Soft-Synth I have ever used. Congratulations Rene & Cake for a great product.
