It intermittent - hope it doesn't get worse.. unfortunately no dump file is created, if it were I'd post the analysis - there is however like previous an entry in windows application event logs Log Name: Application Source: Application Error Date: 16/02/2014 9:10:56 PM Event ID: 1000 Task Category: (100) Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: hpenvy Description: Faulting application name: SONARPDR.exe, version: 20.0.4.278, time stamp: 0x52abb061 Faulting module name: Dimension Pro x64.dll, version: 1.5.0.11, time stamp: 0x4c7bcaa6 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x00000000000bc5da Faulting process id: 0x2cfc Faulting application start time: 0x01cf2afd87c97a15 Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\SONAR X3 Producer\SONARPDR.exe Faulting module path: c:\program files\cakewalk\vstplugins\Dimension Pro\Dimension Pro x64.dll Report Id: 9fdbf32c-96f2-11e3-bedb-68172953ad58 Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID: Event Xml: <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> <System> <Provider Name="Application Error" /> <EventID Qualifiers="0">1000</EventID> <Level>2</Level> <Task>100</Task> <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2014-02-16T10:10:56.000000000Z" /> <EventRecordID>60607</EventRecordID> <Channel>Application</Channel> <Computer>hpenvy</Computer> <Security /> </System> <EventData> <Data>SONARPDR.exe</Data> <Data>20.0.4.278</Data> <Data>52abb061</Data> <Data>Dimension Pro x64.dll</Data> <Data>1.5.0.11</Data> <Data>4c7bcaa6</Data> <Data>c0000005</Data> <Data>00000000000bc5da</Data> <Data>2cfc</Data> <Data>01cf2afd87c97a15</Data> <Data>C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\SONAR X3 Producer\SONARPDR.exe</Data> <Data>c:\program files\cakewalk\vstplugins\Dimension Pro\Dimension Pro x64.dll</Data> <Data>9fdbf32c-96f2-11e3-bedb-68172953ad58</Data> <Data> </Data> <Data> </Data> </EventData> </Event>

Try launching Sonar with Run As Administrator - which will give you an elevated set of execution privileges. Even when you log on to a user account in Windows where the user is an administrator, you still get a reduced set of execution privileges. I literally just wrote another post on this same issue. Please review my explanation on this at the following link: http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2989482 If launching Sonar with Run As Administrator doesn't fix this issue for you, then you may have to remove the current Sonar installation and run the Sonar installer again, this time with the explicit Run As Administrator option set. If you need the steps for a complete removal of an installed version of Sonar, please post back indicating that, and I will dig them up and post them for you. Bob Bone

yeah I don't think this problem has anything to do with execution privileges. In this case, (and in the previous time this happened to me) I was quickly going over the progs while playback of the project was running, ( so I could hear what the prog sounds like in the project). I think it may have something to do with changing progs while playback is running the project. I might be going through each prog too quickly, or one or more of the programs aren't unloading quick enough and it could be the previous prog in dem pro hasn't unloaded while the next prog is attempting to load and kaboom an access violation occurs. Shame there is no dmp created under this circumstance... I might try and attach debugger to sonar and try and replicate it one day, just doesn't occur all that frequently..

I'm not knowledgeable enough to know why this should be, but I've found that running 32-bit Dim Pro in the W7/ X3d 64-bit environment is more stable for me personally. Am not stealing Bob's thunder here as I'm aware there are a host of variables at work, but it may be an idea to try 32-bit DP just to eliminate one of them.

Dimension Pro and Rapture needs an incremental release if anything so we have flexibility to move PROG files around and get rid of the admin requirement in their installers. I'm sure Cakewalk have documented other things to fix with them. What I would quite like to see is a new version of Dimension Pro and Rapture that is a hybrid, i.e. functionality merged into one synth allowing further possibilities whilst retaining backwards compatibility.

Crash while cruising patches? This is a known issue with Dim Pro and I have encountered it myself. You are happily perusing the different sounds then all of a sudden "SQROOOONK!!!" then a crash. You may not have had the horrendous noise (you likely would have mentioned it if you had because it is indeed a horrible and painful sound) but when I had it first happen to me in X1 I posted here and a bunch of other people said they had the same problem. I think it may have something to do with the patches lingering in RAM and then overloading things. I found that I could get through a dozen or so before it happened. Haven't really been messing with Dim Pro since X1 so I have not encountered it recently. And I did indeed install Dim Pro (and everything else) using Run As Admin.

yeah its exactly what I'm doing, I'm cruising the patches... I haven't heard any sound except for the windows error encountered sounds - like the sound from the end of "The IT Crowd" TV show theme music... I haven't installed the 32 bit version, may try it out when I get the chance.. Jim

I just started keeping this little quirk in mind if I'm searching Dim Pro patches. If I think I've gone through enough to start making it wig out I'd fiddle with something else for a while or save and restart Sonar to avoid it. BTW I figured out the correct way to get youtube vids embedded and posted directions in that other thread if you were still curious. Keep in mind though it does indeed slow down the forum page load times so I'd avoid putting an embedded thingie in your sig. Actually I find that wacky (but cool) thing you've got going on in your sig now tends to slow things down a bit too. Not a lot but figured I'd mention it while on the topic. Cheers.

I generally save changes in a project as I go along to avoid losing them in cases like this... I'd hate to lose a change made and not remember what I did to try and re-create it. Beepster BTW I figured out the correct way to get youtube vids embedded and posted directions in that other thread if you were still curious. Cool! Will check it out soon :)
