Dimension Pro in 5, 6, 8.5 and now X1

Hi folks.

I guess this has been covered somewhere(?) but honestly, after a forumsearch i still dont find the answer... So:

A long time ago (i guess Sonar 5 was the actual Sonar version? Maybe even 3 or 4?) i bought me the full version of Dimension Pro and i have used it now n then ever since. Somewhere in time though, the Dimension Pro came bundled with the actual Sonar upgrade (with Sonar 6?). So i guess i have registred it a few times. I just follow the flow and reinstall it (the latest one i owe) for every clean sweep of my computers. I think (but im not really sure ...) that the one i have running now, is the one i installed with Sonar 8.5. AND the latest patch, which should be... 2.5? (It also should be said - even if it dont matter on this task) that i run X1 as 32 bit version, on my Windows 7 x64.

Now, if i remember right, when i loaded Dimension pro in the earliest version, it showed up inside Sonar just as "Dimension Pro". Then, when it came bundled with Sonar 6(?) it showed up as "Dim Pro" (or maybe only "Pro"). Notice the difference.

Now, with X1 and maybe even with Sonar 8.5, it (again?) shows up as "Dimension Pro".

Do you follow? Maybe i remember wrong in some detail, but i know that it has been loaded with different names. Maybe it is becouse one version was DXi and one VSTi and i simply mix them up?

Anyway, the very NAME of the instrument is a minor problem, but i sit here right now, and want to do work on a project which i made in Sonar 6. And when i load it, it sais "Dimension Pro cant be found on your system". But hey... i DO have it installed on my system...

Check the screenshot:

...where the dimension(s) in parenthesis is the "nonfound" ones, and the one far down in the list is on i just loaded for this screenshot. (Dont bother the Session Drummer 2 and wusikstation... they really are NOT installed yet:) )

So, i am confuzed. Again :D

Anyone like to sort this out for me?

Cheers in advance

Most likely it's looking for the DXi  or x86 VSTi that you no longer have installed. Of course, you can always insert new instances, but that's a pain when you have a lot of old projects. Plus you lose the patch info and any tweaks you might have made to to them.

This stuff gives me a headache. Other than going back to old discs and reinstalling the various flavors (and crossing your fingers that it doesn't over-write newer patches/samples installed with the latest version), I don't know of a solution. Even then, SONAR may not recognize the new installation as being the same synth.

Cakewalk should really come up with a tool that can re-write old projects to recognize the latest version of Dim Pro you have installed and use it.

I thank my lucky stars I was late to the Dim Pro party, and never depended on it that much.

Yep, the tweaks is the problem. Or - to remember "which pad did i choose" among all presets.

...and headache is the word. As the Dim Pro Party... lol

Maybe - but only maybe - the key for me is that i have "always" used DXi earlier, whenever i have had the possibility to choose. Earlier there was a reason for that, as you had to run anything VST through some VST translating thing ...  Until now. I messed around a bit before i decided to go on with a 32 bit DAW... Now i ask myself why i have Dim Pro installed as VSTi and not DXi... But hey... the latest Dim Pro patch didnt support DXi? Or did it? Was that a x64 issue?

Hehe, there is a mess a mess.

Not sure if im just confuzed or more of a complete idiot lol ... i should stick to my guitars.

    Enuff for today:)

    Cheers

not much help for your old tracks, but I find it useful to freeze tracks once I know that I have what I want, so at least it'll play back even if the plugin isn't there anymore.  that's true for the confusion surrounding DXi/RTAS/VST Dimension Pro (of which I believe only VST is currently supported; I know for sure RTAS support was dropped with version 1.5, and I believe DXi was too) and it's just true of pretty much any soft synth.  You'll never know when the next OS upgrade kills a plug-in.

The Dim Pro debacle has resulted in me still having to use 1.2 on all my projects - including those in X1

I can run 1.5 stand alone but Sonar really freaks the plug out
