Dimension Pro in Multi Mode can it play different patches for each element ?

Hi all ,
I normaly use a Midi Guitar ...and I recently fixed it ...( long story)
what I'm interested in doing is setting up 4 different elements in Dim Pro so I can use less instances of Dim Pro.
I might not know how to do this correctly ...every time I try to .....
ex...have a Paino in element 1 ,
when I go to put in another patch for element 2 ..it overrides what ever was in element 1 ...
I have looked in the manual ...and it is posible I might not be doing something correctly.
any help and clarification would be greatly appreceated
Kenny

Pssst! Kenny: you need Rapture. Six Elements (one per string), and a MIDI guitarist's best kept secret. Shhh. Don't tell anyone.

You have to think of loading Programs as a Multi or a Combi would be in a hardware synth. You've probably (?) got a Roland interface. A DP program would be like a Patch, and an Element would be similar to a Roland "Original Tone". Loading a new program in DP overwrites all four Elements, even if there's nothing in them in the new Program. The best way that I've found around that is to open up two instances of DP. "Audition" the Programs in one, and Copy the Element (usually E1) that you want. Paste Element in the second DP instance, build up your new custom program, and Save it.

I've got more detail posted around here somewhere on patch construction with 2 instances, and using the multitimbral option. Until I find it, here's a setup that I used in Rapture to split a keyboard for guitar-like phrasing. Maybe it'll help.

    Hi b rock,
thanks alot for jumping in ...
    ooohhh man ,
it's one thing for me to realy wan't Rapture, now I need Rapture...

thats just the sort of excuse I need when my money free's up a little...

I'm using the Ibanez IMG 2010 with the MC 1
    http://www.joness.com/gr300/img2010.htm
    http://www.joness.com/gr300/MC1.htm
    I'm pretty happy with it,
she sat on the sidelines for a while ...broken 24 pin cable which I mustered up the courage to replace and re solder to the 24 pin conectors.
All turned out well in that area , and now I'm finding out how much midi has progressed , and how little I know when it comes to using the tools I have to thier full potental.

    You realy know your stuff,
I went and checked out the link , page , and song.
Whew...after reading that ...I'm gonna have to buckle down and bust some a** studying
That is one heck of a tutorial my man.....
I should have spent less time Daydreaming and more time studying when I was in school
Most of my midi knowledge is rudementary...it's time to play catch up...and learn..
I will give some of your pointers a shot and see if I can wrap my head around them and utilise...and incorporate them....
    thanks...b rock

That was 'too much answer' for your question, Kenny. Back to the original: This is something that I've been meaning to do for a while now. I just uploaded an image to the Project5 wiki, and I'll flesh it out later on with some text. In the pic, I loaded up two instances, and saved a piano, guitar, bass, and drum kit to the four Elements in the second one.

b rock,,,+ 1 for thanks on this post,,,, more good karma from me as well.
Kenny,,,I think I was feeling the same as You on this one .
Question-is this the way its designed? Or is it a kinda bug? Seems kinda weird to need to open two instances. Anyway glad to have the workaround

I don't think it's a bug, do you? I look at it more as a feature; a side benefit of retaining most everything efficiently in memory just once. You really don't have to use two instances, but I found this to be the quickest way to create custom Programs from the provided content, and only having to do it once.

There's other ways to get to the same results. For example, you can Copy Element (and/or all of the Modulator settings), then Initialize Program. Everything is still in memory while your host application is open; even if you delete the DimPro instance. Alternately, you can load up each Program that you want to 'steal' from, and Save Element (usually E1). That way, you can build up a re-usable collection of Elements for later use.

    Hi kaylen,
I'm glad b rock jumped in and helped us out.
one of the things i realy like about his explanation and process is the fact that it is simple and it coresponds to something I found out by accident on my own.

to those who know this and do this ...pardon the explanation ...

I found that just like b rock explained that you can do the same thing in SONAR ...
this I found out a while back and do it all the time.
    example
in SONAR I would open a project and work on it untill I hit a sticking point...
rather than muck around and loose my original idea I would save the project...
    always in its own folder.
and just like b rock mentioned for Dim Pro ..how to create ..copy and paste elements
Using the same concept as above ..for clips and audio...
I would open a new instance of SONAR
( create a new project or make a copy of the old idea) ...match the tempo
and then copy and paste new arrangments ...or add new parts to the newer one untill I found something I was happy with.
or an other way I would do was to make a temporary mix of the original ...create a new project ..match the tempo ...and create and record the newer parts...when I found something I wanted to keep , I would open the old project create the nesessary audio or midi tracks and then copy them to the parent project.....
this is one thing I love about working with this software...
    also one other thing
I have all my projects set up as ....thier own folders ......
I love the fact that when I'm using P 5 V.2 that it can go into my SONAR project folders and I can audition , and use all the various audio and loops form my SONAR projects and incorporate them seamlessly...into the arrange or groove matrix.....
    cool stuff
    Kenny

b rock ,,,,for a long time I couldnt make that work ended up just doing other things, I'm a bit embarased to admit how overwhelming these programs have been for me,But I am dedicated to learning this stuff ,, Thanx for helping
