Dimension Pro won't play
Hi there, I just upgraded to Sonar 8.5.3 and am trying to get Dimension Pro to work - it isn't working and I'd appreciate any help you can offer... It's not making a sound and it makes my Sonar installation run very slowly. I created a new blank project, and inserted Dimension Pro. I have a separated MIDI track and synth track. I've selected my synth as an input and the midi track meter moves when I play some keys. The output of the midi track is Dimension Pro. I've loaded a grand piano patch into element 1. Element 1 volume is about 2 o'clock. The input of the synth track is from Dimension Pro x64 Primary Output Stereo. The meter on the audio track doesn't move at all. I tried adding a midi note to the midi track and playing it but play doesn't work. Also, when I click on Sonar sometimes it hangs for 15 seconds or so then the screen refreshes. I can do something similar with adding Drop Zone and it works fine. I use midi quite often for EZ Drummer and triggering my MO6. I just can't get Dimension Pro to work. Thanks in advance for any help!

It sounds like you have a problem w/ the synth (or audio) track. Try using the synth rack to insert dimpro. Using a combo midi track might make connections easier for you. And be sure to highlight the individual track - click on it.

Thanks AT. I did use the synth rack to insert the synth, and I tried both the "simple" track and the 2-track method. I did the 2-track method so I could verify that my controller is firing the midi. I also didn't mention but I did have the track monitoring enabled. And, I don't have problems with Drop Zone or EZ Drummer (I've used other synths in the past but have only tried these 3 so far with Sonar 8.5).

Sometimes SONAR can be funny about playing synths. They load but you just have to fool around w/ them, banging on everything, to get them to sound. Check the midi input - often that doesn't come up. Another thing is make sure the insertion didn't turn off the audio engine (up in the top tool bar). That happens, too. Good luck.

There are some issues with the 64 bit VSTi version of Dimension Pro. I use the 64 bit DXi and it works fine. Check and see if you are using the VSTi or the DXI.

Thanks again AT and Glyn. Glyn - I don't have the DXi version showing up in the plug in manager, just the VSTi version. How do I get the DXi version installed?

I got the DXi version installed (RTFM) - now I can't install the synth at all. As soon as I select it in the synth rack Sonar fails. I guess I'll email tech support. I'm playing with the Rapture64LE and it's got a lot of cool sounds. I'd really like to hear Dimension Pro!
