Dimension Pro-Oh No!!

Hi, I'm in the process of loading plug-ins into my new DAW.  Dimension Pro is giving me problems!  I went on Command Center. Under D-Pro it states that "This product cannot be launched directly". So I went to Cake's website went into my Account and downloaded the D-Pro Windows 1.5.0.13.001 download.  I tried running it and saw some activity but nothing progressed to a completion.  So after doing this a few more times with no success, I went back to Command Center and decided I would try again there.  No success.  Does anyone know how I can get this damn plug-in to download successfully? HELP! Thanks.

The notation "This product cannot be launched directly" means the product cannot run from inside the Command Center. AFAIK, the only products that may be launched from inside the Command Center are Cakewalk DAWs. None of the synths may be run from the Command Center. This has nothing to do with installation though.

Are you receiving any error messaged from the Command Center?
What does the installer do when you run it manually?
Have you tried verifying the manual download using the md5 hash supplied on the download page?

BTW, you could use any X series DPro installer you may have and get the same product that shipped with Platinum. The synth has not changed in years.

Thanks for responding.  So I'm a bit confused-if I can't use the Command Center to download Dimension Pro why do they have listed under Connected Products: D-Pro?  I downloaded Rapture Pro, for instance, and that's a synth. Anyway, when I run the installer manually, all I'm seeing (and it goes pretty fast) is some activity, then asking me what language, maybe a little more activity and then Poof! nothing else happens. I'm not receiving any error messages from Command Center and I'm sorry, I don't know what the md5 hash supplied on the download page means?

You may use the Command Center to download and install DPro. At least, that how I installed DPro. The message in the right-hand column of the Command Center "This product cannot be launched directly" has nothing to do with download/install. You may notice the message also appears in the RPro right-hand column.

You might want try a fresh download from the Command Center. Right-click on the DPro item in the Command Center, select "Delete Files", then try the install button again.

where do I find X Series DPro Installer?

If you have disks for X1 or 2 Producer or the download files for X1, 2 or 3 Producer, they all have DPro installers.

I tried a fresh download from the Command Center. Right-click on the DPro item in the Command Center, select "Delete Files", then try the install button again.  It seemed like it downloaded correctly, but Platinum didn't recognize it.  I don't have any disks for X1, 2 or 3. I do have Sonar 8 disks. I don't know what to do at this point! any other ideas? Thanks.

I do have X1, but I haven't downloaded it. If I download X1 and it has DPro will I have to uninstall X3 and Platinum to get it working or will it just be recognized in X3 and Platinum after the download of X1?

No. Did you do a rescan of your VSTs from within SPlat? Do that 1st.

Rescan +1
And register it by right clicking on the desktop icon for D Pro and select "Run as Administrator"

In SONAR, go into Plugin Manager

From there, do a VST Reset (don't worry about this for a single moment)

Them do a Rescan of your VST's

There will be once it is installed. Sonar installs the VST version and the stand alone version (that one is on your desktop).

Thanks for all the help.

chuckebaby- I searched high & low for the DP desk icon-it's not there(??)

Bristol-Jonesey- I did the following but with no success: In SONAR, go into Plugin Manager,From there, do a VST Reset (don't worry about this for a single moment),Them do a Rescan of your VST's

I have successfully loaded 279 plugins but trying to get Dimension Pro to download seems impossible.  Does Cakewalk ever do a remote on your computer for problems like this.  Years ago the tech support was much better when you could actually talk with someone when you called for support.

I appreciate all the fine suggestions and hope that I can solve this dilemma

You can run it standalone from the Dimension Pro microhost. You should find it at:

C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\Dimension Pro\Dimension Pro x64.exe

You can create a shortcut or pin it to your taskbar.

Hi daveny5: I did as you suggested.  But here's what I got:  C:\Program Files\Calkwalk\Dimension Pro\DimensionPro64.dll <-- That's all that was there. No Dimension Pro x64.exe

Hi chuckebaby,

Thanks for catching that mistake. It was just a typing mistake.  I did type in C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\VstPlugins\Dimension Pro\and I got DimensionPro64.dll instead of Dimension Pro x64.exe.  Any clues to why I'm getting this instead?

Mine are in exactly the same folder.

Interestingly, the datestamp for both of mine are different to yours.

The.dll is 30-Aug-2010
The .exe is 06-May-2010

I think mine are from X3. I don't think I ever upgraded them when I bought platinum.
They are the same versions as X3 anyway.

https://www.cakewalk.com/My-Account/Products

https://www.cakewalk.com/My-Account/Product/CWDM150

Are these above two links working on browser?
The installer files can be downloaded from outside Command Centre.
Save them in a folder and please run the installer by Right-clicking and Run As Administrator.

Hope that will help and will create Desktop Icon.
Then DimPro can be run as Stand Alone directly and once vst scan is run that will be fetchable by Sonar (if sonar and dim pro installed with default settings.)

Re: Dimension Pro-Oh No!! 2017/08/17 13:53:26 (permalink)
OK, I've tried everything!!!  So now I find an old Sonar 8 CD and one disk is Dimension Pro.  So GREAT I says!  I load the CD, run the set-up-everything is going OK.  I think I'm all set.  I check the C: Program Files>Cakewalk>VstPlugins>Dimension Pro and I still get the same thing:  Dimension Pro.dll.  I check Cakewalk Plug-in Manager, VST Instruments and it doesn't show Dimension Pro. When I click on DirectX Instruments Dimension Pro it's listed there.  So I go to Insert>Soft Synths>DirectX>Dimension Pro and I get "Failed to insert soft synth. This synth may not be properly installed"  Any other observations? Thanks

Good, that's what you want. Go to Edit > Preferences > File > VST Settings > Scan Options. Click on Reset, then click on Scan. That should do it for you.

Thanks for the advice Craig.  I did exactly what you posted: Go to Edit > Preferences > File > VST Settings > Scan Options. Click on Reset, then click on Scan. Unfortunatly, it didn't work. I checked again: C: Program Files>Cakewalk>VstPlugins>Dimension Pro and still got the same thing:  Dimension Pro.dll. While in Platinum I tried again to Insert the plugin but again got "Failed to insert soft synth. This synth may not be properly installed"  I don't know what to do at this point!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Assuming this is on 64bit Windows and the intent is to get 64bit DPro for 64bit SONAR....
IIRC, SONAR 8 included a DXi version of DPro. This means the dll in the VST path is from a previous install attempt.
To register DPro -
  • DPro must be run stand alone as administrator. I am not sure where the stand alone is for this version but would guess it is in either "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro" or "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Dxi\Dimension Pro." There should be instructions included with SONAR 8 regarding DPro registration.
  • A serial number and registration code for that release must be used. It may be in your store account. The item will be listed as "Dimension Pro" NOT "Dimension Pro 1.5" and the serial number will start with CWDM110
This is an old release and should be updated. The v1.2 update is here. The v1.5 update is here.
The expansion packs are not included in this release. They may be found here.

Hi Tropical Cowboy,

The error message you mentioned will pop up if you are running a 32-bit DXi in 64-bit SONAR. To get around this, you can open SONAR with Admin privileges by right-clicking on SONAR's icon and selecting "Run As Administrator"

I am also curious as to why the VST version is not showing up. Give the following a try: In SONAR, go to Utilities > Cakewalk Plug-in Manager. Check to see if Dimension Pro is appearing under the 'VST Instruments' section. If it is not, select 'VST Audio Effects' and check to see if Dimension Pro is listed in there. If it is, single-click on Dimension Pro and then click on 'Plug-in Properties'. In this Window, make sure 'Configure as Synth' is applied and click OK.

If neither of these suggestions seem to do the trick, let me know and we can take it from there.

Welcome to the forum

It should be so easy.

Unfortunately, unless something has recently changed, there are no amount of privileges, praying and persuading that will get 32bit DX plug-ins loaded in 64bit SONAR. AFAIK 32bit DX plug-ins do not appear in 64bit host plug-in lists. The only way I know to load 32bit DX plug-ins in 64bit hosts is with a DX-to-VST wrapper. Even then the results are not great.

It still may be the case that 64bit SONAR needs administrator privileges to run the 64bit DPro DXi. I do not have the old DXi installed.

Or this could be about 32bit SONAR, DPro and Windows. It is not clear what versions the OP is running.
