Dimension pro install insists there is a previous install and exits.

And there was a previous install.  I had Sonar 8.5, X1 and X1 64bit.  But I decided to try the install again since the 64 bit version wasn't working and I uninstalled all cakewalk software using a procedure cakewalk once gave me that involves deleting registry keys and directories.

Somehow the Dimension Pro install is still seeing something that looks like a previous installation.

Does anyone know what it's looking for so I can remove it?  Or is here some way to force the install?

This is the install of a 64 bit X1 Producer on 64 bit win7

You can only have either the 64-bit version of Dimension Pro installed or the 32-bit version installed. Not both.

Edit:  Actually that only applies to Rapture, not Dimension Pro.

I take it back. Its Rapture that you can only have one version - not Dimension Pro -

    From the Rapture Update page:
"When installing Rapture on a 64-bit Windows system only the 64-bit or 32-bit version can be installed at one time, if multiple installations occur only the most recently installed version will appear in your host."

But at this point I should have NO version of Dimension Pro installed.  I assume there's something in the registry it's seeing but I have no idea what t is.

Hey, I had this happen to and had to get help from Cakewalk Support. I do still have some issues with Dimension Pro, but they're ones I can live with.

Here's what Cakewalk Support sent me on how to do a complete uninstall of Dimension Pro:

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Cakewalk Technical Support.

First we are going to clean out your current Dimension Pro installation, then re-install.

    Please perform the following:

    -  Completely un-install Dimension Pro from your computer. This is normally done from Start | Programs | Cakewalk.

    -  Make sure nothing else is running while reinstalling Dimension Pro in step 'e'. In Win 98/ME/XP, choose Start | Run and type MSCONFIG.
Click OK, then click on the Startup tab at the upper right of the window that opens. Uncheck all items listed, click OK, then restart your computer. You can always recheck those items again at a later time. In Win 2000, click Ctrl+Alt+Del and manually End Task on the
    items you don't need running.

    -  Click the Windows Start button and select Run. At the prompt type REGEDIT and click OK.

Backup your Registry before making edits - you do this by clicking the Registry menu, Export Registry File.

Now delete the following Registry keys

     HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\Dimension Pro

     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\Dimension Pro

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{61E5A01F-A3AD-4a64-BD41-4123B58CD27B}\InprocServer32\18

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Shell\CommonAppData

    -  Right click and delete the "Common AppData" folder

    -  Close Regedit

     -  Delete your cxp files via the following steps:

    -  Please go to Start | Search and type in the following:

    *.cxp

-Make sure you search your entire hard drive including all hidden files and folders. You should find several files named "cxdata##.cxp" in your Identities folder. Delete all of these files.

    -  Delete the file Dimension Pro.dll from your main VST folder and the Dimension Pro program folder. (if it is still present)

    -  Now download and run our patchappdata utility:

    http://www.cakewalk.com/support/kb/patchAppData.exe

    -  Now re-install Dimension Pro from your DVD and install the 1.2 update.

    -  Attempt to insert Dim Pro into SONAR by running as admin:

    1. Right click the SONAR icon.
    2. In Properties, select the Compatibility tab.
    3. Under Privilege Level, select the Run this program as an
administrator check box, and then click Apply or OK.
    4. If this is the first time the application has been marked to run as
an administrator, a dialog box will appear.
    5. Click OK to continue.

Please report back to us your progress, we want to make sure Dimension Pro is up and running after making these changes.

    Best Regards,

    Chad

Thanks DA.  That's very helpful.  There's a few steps in there that were not in the deleting cakewalk instructions.

The install is running fine now
