Dire help needed!?

I just built a new barebone computer. The problem is that the mother board i bought doesn't have on-board video card so i had to buy a separate one. But with the new video card i need to install drivers for it, but before i can get the drivers installed i need the OS installed, but i can't install the OS because i can't see the anything on the monitor because i the video card isn't installed....any suggestions to fix this sad dilemma?

Motherboard: Asus P5Q

Video Cad: NVIDIA 9800+ GTX

OS: Windows Vista Ultimate

the pc will work initially WITHOUT the graphic card drivers installed.

either something is faulty OR hasn't been put together right. the pc will display the boot up etc.. without drivers.

the drivers normally come on a disc or just get them from nvidia's site

    http://www.nvidia.com

you might have to do some fault finding, which is what it sounds like..

normally when I build a machine..

I double check connections etc before switching on

I check it boots up with the bare minimum .e..g. no hard / dvd drives etc.

just the memory / graphic card.

then add the rest. bit by bit.

sounds like a bad board. either motherboard or video.

it could also be many other things. bad power supply, bad ram, things not seated correctly, even a doa processor (very rare)
incorrect wiring... i could go on.

having beep codes would help but most boards today do not have speakers. find one to use would help

    I have the same/similar board, a P5Q-SE2.
Did you connect the speaker lead from your case?

If so, you should hear a beep code which will help.

Like the others say you don't need drivers to boot up.
Do you see "anything" on the screen?
    The BIOS screen for example?

    If not something is wrong.

Try another video card if you have one.
    Any kind will do.

Did you connect the other connector (non ATX) to the motherboard?
Does your video card require a power connector?

Try another slot for the video card, remove every other card except video and try again.
If that fails, pull the power cord, remove the CMOS battery (look at how it's installed!), look in the book for the CMOS reset jumper (usually located near the battery) and move it over to the "short" pins. Leave it there for 5 minutes then put it back. Re-install the battery and power cord and try again.

Have you connected the 8-pin (secondary power) cable?

2 beeps is usually a memory parity error in the low order chip.
Try one module at a time to isolate.

FWIW, Showing up in the BIOS doesn't guarantee the HD is working properly.
Similar to the Windows message saying, "This device is working properly." Sometimes it's true... and sometimes not

The beeps will mean different things depending on your BIOS manufacturer. Check their website for error codes. That'll tell you exactly what is wrong.
