DirectCompute - Will Sonar ever leverage this?

Just wondering if Sonar will ever get any benefit from all the horse-power sitting on our video cards.

I understand latency is a problem for real-time stuff, but could it be leveraged for off-line processing at least?

I think it will come down to plug in designers taking advantage GPUs more so than DAW designers. I for one would love to see this happen SOON. I have two plugs that eat my i7 alive. Ozone 5 Advanced and 2CAudio B2 Reverb. Both these plugs cause my first core to spike much higher than the rest of the cores. There are ways to manage it but its a compromise and I hate sacrificing sound quality for CPU cycles. I thought about looking into hosting CPU hungry VSTs on a second system using Vienna Ensemble Pro 5 but haven't got around to it yet.

Ozone 5 Advanced does us the GPU but only for the meter bridge feature.

Here is a free convolution reverb that uses CUDA:

That would be fantastic, I have an ATI HD 5970, it has more raw power than my i7

If someone could make plugins run on GFXs cards, that would be the DSP card of the future without being locked in to something proprietary.

@Hansenhaus, I do that using Forte VST host and "MIDI Over LAN", works really nice, even sends clock so the plugin running on the satelite box stays in sync with the host, doesn't add more than a couple ms latency.

I use TightVNC to remote the satelite box if I need to change something (So I don't have to get up hehe)

I too use Forte (Brainspawn) and LOVE it as a VST host wrapper.  +1 for sure,

I'm sure I recall in a Cake document relating to X1 that it already uses the GPU for some aspects of the code. It will be interesting to look back and find what this was.

I recall that too.  Pretty sure it was just used for the GUI.

It's just for the GUI and the hit on my GPU is anywhere from 5 to 20%. You can see Sonar using the GPU if you scroll the track view around with a large project.

I used GPUz to monitor the GPU usage.

I tried using the GPU edition of Reverberate but the plug does not show up in the plug in manager. I tried scanning several times and verifying the location of the DLL and its like it just doesn't exist. :\
