Disable Floating Windows as default?

Hi

When I pull up a plug-in GUI it defaults to Floating.

Personally I'd prefer it if it was just a normal window and clicking anywhere else on the screen made it dissappear. Is there anyway to tell Sonar to do this as standard with all plug-in windows so I don't have to click the Disable Floating section of the top-left button menu every time?

?

Oh well, at least you tried. :)

It's more with the little things, like pulling up a wee EQ plugin for example for a moment for the first time where disabling the floating window takes as long as a minor tweak.

Always on Top is a weird default to have.

I agree.. it is really annoying - the only thing I do to make it faster a bit is using alt+spacebar and then "D" while the plug has the focus.

In that long previous thread it's weird how nobody mentions the "always on top" thing! when you close a plug and re-launch it, even then it defaults back to always on top.

Cheers for the shortcut, that'll come in handy.

I hadn't noticed that the plug-in reverts to floating after closing and re-opening though because I do what I used to do in Cubase and have all the plug-ins on the right screen and just click on the mixer when I want rid of the one in focus (I keep Sonar fully stretched across both monitors and don't have the mixer floating).

Yes, it is strange that no-one else found this a bit silly too.

This has always bothered me too! I tried using the "Enable Tabbing For Open Views" to compensate, but that takes up a lot of room too. And you can't see several plug-ins at once. UGH!

So now SOMETIMES I just MINIMIZE the plug-ins and using the hotkeys "ALT+3" and "ALT+0" to go between track and console views. Then "CTRL+TAB" to bring up the plug-ins again. If the plug-ins were listed under the windows menu, this would be an acceptable way to do it (because you wouldn't have to "CTRL+TAB"), but they aren't. So I'm mostly back to exiting the plugin every time I'm done with it....

One nice way to really make all this work is for the plug-ins to be transparent when floating on top. Hit CTRL while hovering over the plug-in to access it (makes it more apparent) -- hold CTRL while adjusting it. Clicking without CTRL to access what is underneath the plugin. [hint for Cakewalk]

What a fustration for such a little thing...

BTW, for maximum visibility, I maximize the track and console views and "CTRL+Tab" between them (or "ALT+0" and "ALT+3"). If I disable floating on a plugin it becomes maximized -- bad thing!

That's nice..also let the user control the CTRL key behavior or assign any other keybindings to that.

yes, it's a big thing IMO
