Disappearing Audio Clips
Has anyone a clue what I am doing wrong here? I am recording a vocalist and also guitarist from the band over drum , base and guide tracks put down earlier. The singer tries for one take but when things don’t go to plan I try to resume her from a point in the track . I have split the clip and deleted the “bad” bit . Then I set up an insert for her to resume. I see the wave pattern being recorded but when I stop or she finishes the clip is not visible (there is an envelope with “record…” in it but no visible wave pattern , I open up the take lanes but its not there either. Of course it was the “ perfect take” but now its disappeared ! Now the really unbelievable bit… I then press undo recording and momentarily the wave re-appears before the recording is undone! Next time I might video this!! I have been a user of Sonar since 8.5 but only started a “serious” project this year. So probably quite an inexperienced user. It must be something I’m doing wrong as there would be huge shouts if this happened a lot for everyone. Needless to say guitarist & singer not overly impressed! I have tried, from previous recording problems (Clicks) , upping the asio buffer on the Roland Octacapture and ticking the lower latency box , also upgraded the driver to 1.5.2 I changed from comping to overwrite. It doesn’t happen every time but I sometimes also end up with the clip wave muted . Hope you can help Ric

1st, check the audio folder for the project and see if you can sort the Wav files by creation date and see if you find your recordings there. BTW, I have noticed a number of goofy display issues with take lanes where they seem to go away, or display the wrong data. Using DELETE or INS buttons while working in take lanes can make them go screwy it seems to me. I submitted a bug, but was told to call in. I don't care enough to call.

StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen. I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

Make sure your actually recording and do not just have Wave preview enabled. Also, make sure your audio drive have enough space, but i do think its what i stated above. CJ

Thanks for your suggestions , I'll be recording on Tuesday night so I'll try things out. The recording mode was set as comping but I was not using comping as such, so I tried overwrite instead. I have checked I have enough disc space . My computer is getting old and the memory is only 4GB I saw the wave being generated as recording was taking place and it flashed up for a second when undo was pressed. The display issue could be worth looking at more and I will try to check if the wave file is there . Thanks again. I'll report back

Does it play? Could it just be a redraw thing, where it isn't displaying the picture of the recorded clip? (maybe the 4GB memory make it tough to display the new clip). Perhaps you could delete the picture cache and let it recreate it for you? Bob Bone

Bob , the picture cache is as per default c:\cakewalk projects\picture cache , it has nearly 4000 files , can these safely be deleted? I have checked that the picture cache uses all 4 processors and it does so must be default. If it happens again I can try Associated Audio Files dialogue to Recompute Picture(s) Thanks again for you help Eric

I've had this on some projects as well. The waveform will display correctly only on certain zoom settings. I can't repeat the problem, but it occasionally happens. Thankfully it plays correctly even though the waveform is blank. When I freeze the track the waveform reappears at all zoom settings.

I am not Bob but I can assure you that clearing the Picture Cache is a common practice. The contents of the cache is rebuilt as needed when a project is opened.
