ORIGINAL: SteveStrummerUK I agree with you in the main Z. It's the level of understanding that's in question here - you know you have to put fuel in you Skyline, granted, but you don't need to know the inner workings of the internal combustion engine. Similarly, I agree simple hard drive maintenance is a must, but again, you don't need to know exactly how data is written to and retrieved from it. Well I am one of those guys who knows the inner workings of the internal combustion engines. But it is my opinion.

ORIGINAL: Doc_Hollingsworth Z, I take it you are either not married or haven't been married. Having a wife sure puts a different view on things like car maintenance and PC maintenance, or even yard work for that matter (my little German girl is somewhat old world about the guys and gals thing). It puts a whole new spin on driving a car, filling it up and the maintenance thing (oil, tires, transmission fluid and the like). So I can appreciate how some people can turn on a computer (filling it with gas) and use the GUI (driving even in PC terms), yet not know how change the oil, check the brakes.etc. (disk maintenance, etc.). I think you are like quite a few of us out here that by either virtue of our own curiosity or by our profession have come to know technology inside out. Well... you could look at it that way doc, or you can look at it as I can't find a decent woman who knows the importance of basic maintenance. I've found a few but I guess it's not my time yet. Some people don't have the attention span to even want to think about the possibility that it could be important, that is what I am talking about.

I love my wife but she is rather old world. She takes care of the household stuff and I take care of the yard and what not. There is a marked difference between American women and most European women in that they hold to traditional husband wife roles. I like it that way and it works well for us. I don't have to worry about my wife trying to wear the pants in the house nor do I expect her to take care of the more technical things in our lives. Down side is she is reliant upon me for a number of things but that's mutual for other things I expect her to take care of. I had an American girl for a wife and it didn't work out. To much expectation in that she thought she could and would do everything. I was just a convenient d***. Who needs that grief? Especially when it came with "how much do you make, what kind of car do you drive. What do you mean you want to go out and play in a band till the wee hours."

I noticed that and have been looking for a european (mostly russian, ukrainian or lithuanian, ha ha) woman but they get married so damn young that I can't find any that are closer to my age that are single, and when I do it's because they are Americanized (well U.S.ized)!!!!!!! So I guess I need to go to europe for a while! Or Ukraine! Ukrainian girls are so amazing looking! (I used to have Ukrainian neighbors, and man, when they invited friends over from church or wherever I thought that there was a supermodel convention going on next to my house!!! They were also extremely friendly and nice, and willing to share things and good advice and invite me over for pelmeni or other good food!)

Strummy's just looking for someone to foot the bill for his curry habit. But at $1150 a month that's a bit steep.

That amounts quite possible in takeaways Doc - but I make a lot of my own Indian dishes. These are handy to put breakfast cereals in. I put my home made curry on a plate - plates which I don't make incidentally.

Even per calendar month thats a bit steep, unless it's at least 3 meals a day with a 2 bedroom 2 bath big yard and a swimming pool set up. But who knows maybe by then the $ will be superior to the £ and it will only cost me $200. but I seriously doubt that. The people in charge here are making sure that that won't happen.

He he!! For swimmimg pool, read puddle [after rain] I'm afraid Z. My Calendar Month does not operate on the Gregorian system I'm afraid. The Strummarian Calendar is based on the cycle of how much Guinness I owe Doc and therefore how often I have to charge you rent to pay for it. The system is simple, yet complicated at the same time.
