KingH,
your system is fine. The Delta is kinda old but shouldn't have distorition. Have you checked your Delta mixer - it sounds like too much level there or how it inputs into SONAR. Computer recording is different than stand alone simply because you have so many variables where signals can get overdriven. Basically, a clean signal goes into the delta - you say you've checked that. The next step is to make sure the Delta isn't feeding back a signal or a level is set too high there. If that is fine, you should get a clean level in SONAR and distortion/overs should be obvious in the meters of SONAR. W/ 24 bit recording you don't need to get anywhere near the red - most signals are fine -12 to -18 dBs down in the meters.
If your track input meters look fine but sound bad, make sure the signal isn't feeding back into the delta inputs or any kind of loop back. Also make sure your buses and sends are all off - except for the main.
IF that doesn't help, let us know.
