Dither: Pow-r 3 vs Triangular?

Hi

So I'm exporting to CD from 24 bit 48khz.

I'm reading conflicting reports about dithering. For quality Sonar help implies Triangular is the most accurate/best dither. However other documentation recommends Pow-r 3.

Any thoughts on specifically Pow-r 3 vs Triangular?
(nb Not worried about the processing power involved).

Thanks

Alex

    Thanks.

As for the dither question ... I always use Triangular. I tried the Pow-r ones and I dunno, they just sound too harsh to me.

Right. It really depends on the particular mix. For example ... I tried different dither settings on a project last night.

Triangular on this particular project seemed to add something to the snare and cymbals that I liked, but made the bass less defined.

Pow-r 3 gave just the opposite result. Bass was more defined, highs were a tad dull.

I thought maybe it was just my ears playing tricks on me so I loaded both in to a new project and did the null test thingy and sure enough ... there was a huge difference. It was a significant enough difference to where I could hear it, and see it in the Cakewalk Analyzer.

So, you really have to just try each one and see what you think sounds best. For me, it's almost always Triangular.
