Dither Pre Master

Dithering Question: I have a project at 24x48. I want to export as a pre master. Should I dither if I am exporting at same 24x48 for a premaster? I will master at a later date.
I have always done it this way and I am sitting here having coffee, over thinking things possibly.

In this case, do not dither.

Maybe I've had too much coffee this morning, but your answer made me chuckle.

Oh, it's absolutely correct: applying a dither algorithm is not required if you're not changing the word length. What made me laugh is the other definition of "dither", meaning to procrastinate. I guess you're right in both senses.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Yes, that occurred to me too.

If you bounce internally to 32 bit wave before export to 24 bit, apply non shaped dither when you plan to import, bounce again to 32 bit and export again at a reduced bit depth.

You don't want to apply shaped dither repeatedly.

I tend to use shaped dither only on the final export.

I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.
