Divinity - instrumental rock

Written on the piano, and first recorded back in 2001 or so as a semi-jazz song. I have long wanted to update this to a more rock oriented number, so this weekend I did.

Divinity

Engineered in Sonar X1 Producer. Guitars, bass and piano are live, using my Gibson SG Special and Guitar Rig 5. The drums are written in Session Drummer.

Mix is not "final", but it is ready for ears and feedback.

Very tasty song and guitar playing.  I like the drums, they sound good and are well mixed.  The bass and piano are a little too far back on my monitors, but I can hear them.  The guitar in your picture looks just like mine except I have the maple neck.  Nice job.

    All the best,

Thank you, Lynn. I've replayed the guitar tracks, hot-rodded the solo, remixed it all, and uploaded fresh. Take another listen, anyone who is interested.

Didn't sound spacious to me. I had to lean towards each speaker to hear what was coming out of it (like the piano both hands) but it all tended to seem to be in the center.

Not spacious? Odd, it's quite spacious in my reference monitors and headphones... and car....

Found the problem. Ever since the virus on my computer, things are not quite right. The sound card mixer was set both channels to the middle instead of left and right. I'll listen again, and check the settings more often, which should not change anyway. world of difference now. Sounds good!

Wow... Good stuff. I really enjoyed it.

All things being subjective I would have liked to have had a little more drums. They are there but the guitars (to me so I wouldn't weight it much) were well over the top of the fills and the kick. But different ears and different systems.

    A great tune.

Glad to hear that! I've been tinkering with the mix, wondering what I can do to expand it. I like the Channel Tools, never tried that before. It gives some nice width to the existing mix. Just might keep it this way. :)

Thank you, notnat and Vettetech. I would agree on the drums. What I think I need to do is learn to use the fader on this V-Studio 100 so I can pull things in and back where needed.

Excellent guitar tone!  Drums could come up a little. Enjoyed the song and the tasty playing.

I like that, agree a little more drum and punch on the kick would be for me.

Very nice work and a pleasure to listen to.  Guitar takes center stage, just as it should.  Bravo, friend, bravo on a great piece.

I want to thank you all for the advice, and tell you I took it. New mix (not uploaded) has brought the drums up a bit, and using Channel Tools I spread the mix a little wider.

    Thanks, everyone!

    Hi Steve,

Great guitar tone/playing and mix. But most importantly it's a really nice well arranged tune.

    Well done!

    Thank you, Geeare1. :)

I just uploaded the final mix, and the first link in this thread will take you there on Soundclick.

I've been able to upgrade X1 to Expanded, and started using Concrete Limiter. Oh, yes.... what a difference that makes. I hope you enjoy the track if you haven't heard it, and even if you have.

Agree with most of the positive feedback you are getting mister6. Agree the drums could still come up a tad. A really lovely tune, well played and well mixed.

    Thanks for posting.
